Buying on line

I have decided to get a Kahr Arm hand gun or two. Looking at CW9, CM9. At the Gun shops they are quite pricey. Have looked at them online at some of the auctions sights and looks like you could get lucky and get them at great prices. Has anyone ever bought a hand gun online? and do FFL fees vary? Do you pay taxes to the gun shop that charges the transfer fee?
Will be going to a gun show in a couple of weeks and if there prices are too high I'm going to try the internet. Need some direction from those that know.

I have bought online, and you don't really save that much. compared to a reasonably price store. Check around for the FFL prices, the ones around me are about $25 some charge for each transfer, and others will charge that prices for all transfers at the same time. Make sure to account for shipping too.

I kind of felt bad checking out guns at local stores and purchasing online though, so I will probably not purchase online unless I can get a really great deal. I try to support my local gun shop by purchasing ammo and other items especially if I am not going to purchase guns there.

P.S. You don't pay taxes if it's from a different state, of course in most states you are suppose to report it on your state taxes...

i was going to buy a crossbreed on line then i realized my credit card just expired and have to wait about a week to get a new one .......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i so was hoping to win the giveaway so i wouldn't have to buy all that stuff on my own..........but as soon as my new credit card comes i'm getting that holster and a gun belt for starters
i trust crossbreed with purchasing on line from them

You pay the sales taxes in the state you reside in when you pick it up at your local FFL dealer.

Get yourself a C&R; there are some very good milsurp firearms out there (CZ-82, P-64, Yugo Mausers, etc.). Cost for C&R is $30, and you get your stuff delivered right to the door, can't beat that.

GunsAmerica, GunBroker are internet sites that usually have the best prices. Look at Armslist and gunslisting for local sales by people in your area. Internet sites like Centerfire and CDNN and Buds Guns etal sell and many others sell online. Check prices--they vary and be patient if you go to GunBroker (they are an auction clearing house for many pawn shops and smaller arms dealer). I have purchased from Buds, from GunBroker and GunsAmerica and sold on Armslist. As far as your questions are concerned on any site, if you can read english, just follow their instructions and all is well. As far as FFL is concerned, you have to have the firearm sent to your local FFL holder--this can be gotten on many sites who list FFL holders in your state--fees vary from maybe $15 to $50 so look around. You can usually use a local pawn shop who sell guns--they are FFL holders. It really is very easy. Some states, if you buy locally from someone like on armslist, you really do not have to go thru an FFL holder--you just pay your money and walk away. If you and the seller are both smart, you will at least sign off on a mutual piece of paper attesting to your legal status on a firearm and some form of ID.

Well the gun show is here in Mesquite Tx. so I went looking for some pricing on a couple of hand guns. Just a few days ago I did win an auction that I had placed a bid on and really didn't think I had a chance at winning. Received an email that told me I won. So at the gun show today I looked for this pistol and had my calculater to figure out the tax for a final price. Well after the one from the auction with the shipping fees, and the FFL transfer fee and all the different ones I had looked at at the dozens of boths that had this pistol I could have saved a total of $2.83. I consider that a win! All I have to do is look at the ones I want to bid on and figure out what I want as a total figuring in the shipping and the FFL transfer fee. Don't have to go search dozens of booths to figure out whos got the best price. If you figure in the cost of the entry to the gun show it comes out the online auctions was the over all winner.

Also came home went to the Gunbrokers auction and got another pistol and saved around $46.00.. That saved me enough to get a couple of magazines for one of the two new pistols. "LIFE IS GOOD" as "Hickok45" would say.

I have saved a lot on line and my main source is Buds Gun Shop. They have a CW9 for $369 out the door then you need to add your FFL charges. Now for me I found a local guy who only charges me $15. I quickly search a CW9 on gun broker and found one for $359 and still bidding then I think with gun broker you pay tax and shipping on top of that. Not sure about tax but shipping I am sure of Buds is the best I found. I see your In Texas so it maybe better pricing for you than me. Here in New Jerkistan the dealers gouge. In other words they take full advantage of the fact that they can't keep guns on the shelf and that people want them most are close to retail prices. Here's an example of Buds Good luck Kahr Arms 7 + 1 Round 9MM w/3.5" Barrel/Polymer Frame & Stai $369.00 SHIPS FREE

That's tax on the transfer fee, not tax on the firearm purchase. The receiving FFL doesn't even know what you paid for the gun, so they have no way of determing what the tax would be, much less collecting it. Besides, they didn't sell the gun to you.

I've bought probably half a dozen guns online, and receiving them through my local dealer is supporting that dealer. That's what his $25 fee is for. He doesn't mind. He appreciates any and all business.

What is a C&R? sorry may be a dumb question.
Curios & Relics. Boston Boy was referring to getting a Collector of Curios & Relics License.

Maine has no tax on FEES so here no tax on the transfer costs. However Maine does have a tax on all internet purchases form out of state and you are supposed to claim all internet purchases on your Maine tax return and pay tax accordingly.

Ohio has that too, but Seeya was talking about what you pay when you pick the gun up at your local FFL dealer.

Yea, I noticed that about Buds, I have a friend that runs a fair sized gun shop and he takes care of me, ends up about where buds is on most stuff

When I finaly got my C&R license, I had about everything I wanted, if your into the older stuff it is kind of cool, dont have to fuss with a dealer

That's good I wish I had the same but, I don't so I go to Buds and I just recently found another shop similar to Buds called JABTAC out of Texas haven't bought anything from them yet. JABTAC is better than Buds in some cases. JABTAC

No. I was talking about the tax on internet purchases. Ohio has that too. But it isn't paid when you pick the gun up at your local FFL dealer, which is what Seeya was talking about in the original post that I was responding to. That's why I hadn't mentioned it in my reply to Seeya. We had already mentioned tax on transfer fees. Was there something else about fee taxes that you thought needed to be addressed?

You can get a CW9 at budsgunshop.com for $369 (cah price-debit card or electronic check. Which is about right for that gun. They ship free-no taxes. You pay taxes to yr FFL dealer, transfer fee & any state paper work that has to be done. I just know about CA, but I started getting my guns from Buds instead of my dealer because they had bigger selection, shipped fast & lower price. By the time my daler got it in and charged me the transfer fee would be about the difference in the lower price, so I'd break even and usually get it quicker.
