Looking into to buying a 1911 45 caliber wondering if anyine has any reccomendations i like the look and feel of the remington r1 enhanced. any body have one that they could give likes dislikes.

I have a Remy R1. Carry it everyday. My first 1911, but I qualified with it in the Corps.
Feels great in the hand, & is the most accurate handgun I own.
Some will say buy a Kimber or whatever. But you should get what you like, & can afford.

For price, quality and accuracy you can't beat the Ruger SR1911. Its under $700, very accurate, and extremely well built 100% in the USA. But finding one might be a little difficult..

My best advise would be to not take what you read on the Internet too seriously. Every brand has a few prolific talkers who think it's better than any other brand, and a few who think it's garbage. Buy the one you like the most.
S&W, Kimber, Sig, Springfield Armory, Colt, Ruger, and Remington - in no particular order - all make pretty great guns.

Just joined website, so first post/response:

Just picked up my Ruger SR1911, it had scratch/damage to underside of slide (discussed further on INGO), they are saying cosmetic only, won't fix.

My Springfield Loaded Champion and Range Officer have been outstanding. Purchased Loaded Champion used, had several issues, however, unlike Ruger, when I called Springfield, they had a box there next day, postage paid, took < 2 weeks for repair and return, again, no charge. Firearm flawless after.

Just sold Sig 1911 Traditional, really liked it as well, only sold it as I like my HKs better (not 1911 style firearms), and saving up for another HK.

Based on my limited experience: Sig or Springfield.

Love my Kimber Custom. Also have a great Colt Officers. One idea for the budget minded - Legacy Sports Intl|Citadel. A friend recently purchased and I went to the range with him. Really nice, all steel, no plastic MSH, lowered/flared ejection port, polished feed ramp, Series 70. Put 100 rounds thru it first day, not one jam/malfunction. That will be my next 1911. Under $600 at Davidsons.

I felt the need for a 1911 to round out my assortment; everyone should have one in my opinion. My choice was a Colt XSE in stainless because I figured I'd get only one and wanted the true 1911 from the original source (got one with the 100 year roll mark that may be worth something some day). The FFL I dealt with is a 1911 competition shooter who carries a Caspian. I picked his brain about best and so on, and he says the Kimber line is the best value for the money (he is referring to machining, tolerances, quality of trigger and other internals). He also has no problem with Colts or obviously Caspians. But he and his friends who get together are fairly well off and price is not an issue.
A lot of LEOs who deal at the LEO supply I frequent buy Springfields - I've looked at them and they are pretty nice and not pricey.

But no matter which you buy, remember: Show your friends your 1911, show your enemies your Glock

Pick one you can afford. At a certain price point you're not getting a good return on your investment. If your budget is $800, just picking a number, look at all the brands offerings in that range and compare. Some will have night sights, some won't. Some will come with only one mag, some with 4. Some with a light rail, some not. I have owned over 20 different 1911's of 6-7 different brands and there is a big difference. If you compare my Sig TacOps with my Kimber Tactical 2, they are very similar. In quality, materials and craftsman ship. One was $1180 and the other under $900. I'll let you guess which is which. Plus the Sig came with 4 mags. Thats about $140 value alone. But I recommend all of the S&W, Ruger, Kimber, Remington, Sig, and Springfield 1911's.

Taurus, Sig, Colt, Springfield, Kimber, all have their good and bad points. You just have to decide on what you want and what you can afford.

I got a sig 1911 traditional carry in SS last month. I love it. I was considering the colt 1991, but felt like for a similar price I got a wealth of popular upgrades/features that would have cost me a lot more money to get the colt to the same level as the sig. I ended up paying about $830 and haven't had a single issue in 800rds. The thing with Sig is that the non "traditional" models have a more squared off slide profile that might not fit all of your standard holsters.

I also considered getting one of the kits from fusion firearms that seem to be in the $700 range, but I think they need a couple hundred more dollars in parts to complete the pistol.

I picked up a Kimber Custom II for $689 and love it. I think the Remington would be a good purchase. The shop I frequent did not have one in stock when I went in to buy my 1911.

I have several 1911's. My favorite is a Colt Gold Cup Mark III.

BTW: Once you own one 1911, you're hooked. Sorry about your luck.

I think most 1911's are good to go these days. Just depends on what patriculars you are looking for and your budget. Gunsamerica.com has lots to choose from, if you look you will find what you like, and at fair prices for most. good luck and have fun shopping!

Man I love 1911s. I have a Colt and a Springfield armory. the colt is a Series 70 National Match Gold cup, which is so sweet (I don't shoot it, it's in really good condition), the Springfield is an awesome gun. The cool thing about 1911s is, as long as its a standard size 1911, you can definitely hot rod them out. All kinds of companies make trick parts for 1911s. Let us know what you get!
