Bad day in the firearms world. My Walther P22 only has around 1000 rounds through it and now it's out of commission.
So I shot my gun this morning with no trouble, and then I go home to clean it. I sit down on my carpet floor and lay out a little rag to clean my gun on. I disassemble and then put a little solvent onto a .22 cal Hoppes bronze brush as always and attach it to a rod and then send it through the barrel starting at the chamber. Halfway through, the brush gets harder to push but I didnt think much of it. I push harder and the brush goes through and out the muzzle and the brush hits my floor and bends. (I was only holding the gun a few inches above the floor and the brush popped out of the muzzle and then bent upon hitting the floor).
Everything seemed fine minus having to push my brush through harder, so I figured there was just a lot of carbon built up in the barrel. I took my other .22 cal nylon brush and sent it through just fine and out comes a little chunk of stainless steel or chrome. That's bad I thought, so I send a few patches through to clean it out and I take a look down the barrel by holding it up to a light and sure enough there is a spot in the middle of the barrel that seems to be missing rifling...
I was shooting cheap Remington Thunderbird lead ammo for the first time through that gun. So Im guessing lead built up and my brush caught on it and took the chunk of rifling out with the lead? Or is it a cheap barrel?
Any other ideas?
