I realize no one is going to be shocked by the fact that the Brady Campaign misrepresents information to promote their agendas, however I just noticed these 2 and couldn't help but get very angry!
1) They have a list of all the "mass shootings" that have occurred since 2005. Now there is no actual definition for what a "mass shooting" is, however from what I found, mass shootings are generally divided between mass murders, spree killings, and serial murders. Now because the last 2 involve multiple locations, the only one that would apply to their articles would be mass murder. I went through every single one and almost all involve only 2 deaths or less, some don't have any deaths. To be categorized as mass murder, there must be at least 4 deaths. I would guestimate that 99% of their articles do not apply, therefore, WRONG! Here's the link: http://www.bradycampaign.org/xshare/pdf/major-shootings.pdf
2) They then have a list of all the "school shootings" that have occurred since 1997. Check out their articles and you only need to read a couple to see a trend...they obviously don't know the difference a "school shooting" and a shooting that happens to take place on a school campus. In some of their articles, the "school shooting" doesn't even take place on campus, and is only considered such because it involves a student at the nearby school. How completely unprofessional can you get? Here's the link to the "school shootings": http://www.bradycampaign.org/xshare/pdf/school-shootings.pdf
Also, about a year ago when I was writing a paper for a class, I checked out their website and noticed some EXTREMELY contradicting info. They've removed it since then, but the statistics are still there it just doesn't have the final quote that was VERY wrong. What it said was this: "Last year, over 30,000 people were killed by gun violence in the US. Over 70,000 people were shot, but survived their injuries." Then this is the real kicker...they followed up by saying this: "This means that over 100,000 people were shot and killed in one year!" Notice the "and killed" part. How did they go from only 30,000 being killed and 70,000 surviving to the whole 100,000 being killed?
