~Border Patrol Agent 'Breaks' His Polymer Sidearm...WTF??~

Look at the pictures...

There was a whole lotta force applied to this weapon, in the 3rd pic you can see the magazine all bent up.
It didn't just fall out of the holster and break and IMO doesn't prove plastic guns are less durable.

That certainly doesn't make me question my HK .45c for a second. That was some extreme crash and as the article mentioned his "CBS"? probably added the torque needed. Also, I'm not planning on riding an ATV any time soon while patrolling the border, so I think I'm fine :-)

With that said, there is a lot to be said for an all metal 1911! Would aluminum or steel make a difference?

Maybe the fact that the gun was made of a flexible material saved this man worse injuries. If I land on something hard I hope that it is slightly weaker than my bones.

Total freak accident. Statistically-speaking, completely irrelevant to analyzing differences between brands of polymer weapons' reliability or safety, or of comparing same between polymer and full-metal framed weapons.

Does anyone know what the "CBS" that the article referred to is?

I have two CZ 2075 RAMIs, one alloy frame, and one polymer. The polymer one's grip is slightly flatter and lower-profile, plus it's an ounce or two lighter, making it a tiny bit easier to conceal, so I started carrying it more than the alloy model. This story doesn't cause me to second-guess that decision at all.
