Blackhawk Serpa Holster

For Christmas I got 2 Blackhawk Serpa Concealment Holsters. I do believe I am going to like them. I have only tried them out yesterday and wore it out for a bit today and seemed to be very comfortable.

My son-in law has one and really likes it. I had been looking at them but did not know if I would like it or not. Santa must have knew that I sort of wanted one! So now I will work on the mechanics to make it totally second nature in the draw and re-holstering. I did some of that yesterday but want to work on it more.

A few ranges went through a time of banning serpa holsters. Fear of hooking the trigger finger on the release and as you present the handgun, your trigger finger already under pressure, engages the trigger and you have an ND.

Keep your finger straight on the release lever, NEVER hooked.

I use them, i let my students use them, but under the knowledge of what can happen if one uses it incorrectly.

Safariland sells a similar holster that has a thumb release rather than a trigger finger release and some instructors prefer that system. The problem is so few box stores so that holster . I don't like the leather attachment point on the Safariland Holster.

I recall when that was a current issue. I don't blame the holster but the shooter. One should learn how to properly present their weapon from what ever type of holster is used. Everyone in my family knows to keep their finger off the trigger and outside the guard until they are ready to shoot. It should be second nature.

Yeah, there were a considerable number of ND's related to that holster. Gunsite doesn’t allow the use of Serpas, which isn’t that uncommon. Many ranges disallow the use of Serpas, in what may as well be called the ” Tex Grebner rule.” - Short Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYvAxLX6OzE&feature=youtu.be
