Hi I am a big guy around 5'11" and 300-350 lbs looking for a good way to carry. Has anyone found anything helpful.

I know I'll hear a lot of guff for this but, losing weight will do more than any holster. You will be more likely to die from obesity related illness than from being shot. The chances of dying from obesity is 1 in 35 in America. The chances of being killed by a person with a gun is 1 in 25,000 in America. Maybe you should explore info on a gastric bypass, the best way to lose a 100lbs or more. This is meant to be educational to you and other "big guys" out there, or else you may be passing down a gun you never needed to a loved one. Good luck and hope you heed this for your own good and the good of your family and loved ones. God Bless you on this journey.

I understand that. And in an losing weight. Scared to get gastric bypass. Been doing it through lots of dieting and exercise. Just looking for in put for the mean time.

I assume you have problems with regular IWB concealed carry and don't feel comfortable with open carry.

One solution would be to pocket carry in a proper pocket holster and a dedicated pants pocket. A better solution may be to fanny pack carry. Again, no other items in the main compartment of the fanny pack than the gun. A spare magazine can be easily carried in another pants pocket or a secondary fanny pack compartment.

In any case, learn how to properly draw the firearm from your carry position without shooting yourself or endangering non-threats. Practice what you have learned regularly. Too many people buy a firearm and carry it like a talisman with little-to-no training.

HI Tagger,

I am 6'2" and about 300 lbs. My preferred concealed carry method is the use of a hybrid IWB holster, such as those by Crossbreed, Alien Gear, etc. I carry either my Springfield XDm 3.8 Compact 9mm or my S&W Shield 9mm in them and essentially forget that they are there. I have no problem concealing either of them under a T-shirt. I carry at about the 4 o'clock position, which is comfortable both standing and sitting/driving. If someone accosts me and demands my wallet (and I am certain that they are intending to do great bodily harm), it will seem that I am reaching for a wallet when I am actually reaching to draw the weapon.

Currently, I have Alien Gear brand hybrids for each of my carry weapons. I also pocket carry my Ruger LCP Custom when I can't conveniently dress without tucking in my shirt. (Note: With most hybrid IWB holsters, you can tuck in your shirt; but that has never worked very well for me.)

For what it's worth . . .

Tagger5532,
I have a good friend that had the surgery a few months ago and she has lost 60 pounds so far and had no problems. She has followed the doctors direction. Good luck in your search. Maybe a IWB behind the back or shoulder holster may work for you. Good Luck and God Bless.

Tagger: I'm a heavy guy too, 6'0" 270lbs. I have found that I can comfortably carry my Bersa Thunder .380 in my waistband in the small of my back.

I'm 6'-6" tall x ~270 lbs. Not WAY overweight, but I could certainly benefit from losing 25 - 35 lbs. That said, when I joined the Army in 1972, I weighed in at a whopping 145 lbs. soaking wet. I think I came out of the Army only about 150 or 155 and got my first CWP in WA State maybe a year or so later. The first handgun I bought was used, and it came with both a Bianchi IWB and X-15 shoulder holster. Even when I was so skinny that I had to run around in the shower to get wet, I always hated IWB holsters. The only very infrequent time(s) I've ever used them since losing that first one in a junk drawer somewhere 40 years ago, is when deep concealment was so necessary that the consequences for going without a weapon were about as chancy as getting caught carrying where I wasn't allowed to would've been anyway, meaning that for the overwhelming majority of my 40-year "career" as a carrier, I have found OWB holsters to be the only choice that I am comfortable with. Yeah, that means you have to dress around your weapon more so than other options, but I've found that the bigger I've gotten over the years (and I've been bigger than I am now), the easier it is to accomplish. Us big guys are much less likely to be buying form-fitting clothes anyway. The more baggy your clothes, the easier hiding a hunk of metal (or plastic) underneath your clothes is. My second choice if I were still concealing, would either be a shoulder holster or holster shirt, and even though they're actually much easier to draw from while sitting or behind the wheel of a vehicle, they still come in second place because I don't like cross-draw options.

YMMV on all considerations I have mentioned. The main point I'm trying to make is that IWB isn't your only workable option, and wouldn't necessarily be any more or less comfortable for you even if you were so skinny you could turn sideways, stick your tongue out, and look like a zipper! (Yeah, I've heard 'em all, though it's been a long damn time. LOL)

312,000,000 persons / 10,580 homicides = 29,490, i.e., one homicide per 29,490 persons or a 1 in 29,490 chance. That is not so far off from the stated 1 in 25,000.

While not being a member of a gang or not committing a crime reduces your chances, the math is more complicated as gang-related homicides do involve innocent victims.

Yeah, by stealing my image and constructing an entirely new post with it.
Did I miss an email or two because I don't recall your name in the list of moderators....

I posted it as my own reply to a topic, not for you to steal to create an entire thread over.
If nothing less, I consider it bad manners on your part..

If carrying at your waist is problematic, give some alternative carry methods a try. Ex Shoulder holster, ankle carry, off-body carry methods, conceal carry jackets etc

From one big guy to another, your are not going to like what I'm about to say. You need to buy pants two sizes bigger and where them high, so your belt is well above your hip bone,(like a dork, like old people). The belt needs to be a strong thick GUN belt, not just any strong thick belt, and that also needs to be two sizes larger (i like Hanks belts on amazon). Then you can use what ever holster you want at 3:30 IWB. I carry a Glock 27 and that's about as big and small as I care to go. I think most people who carry 24/7 don't carry full sized pistols. If you can take a nap with it on, and some times not feel it on your body, you are on the right track; BUT it will still be a relief when you take it off.
