Ok im a new ccwer. I have been visiting a place called Triangle Shooting Academy a lot lately. Its a huge gun store and shooting range in Raleigh NC.

They just sent a email tonight stating: New Store Policy Effective immediately: The following is no longer allowed. Concealed Carry, Open Carry, Any Firearm not in case. Triangle shooting academy strives to keep all guests and staff safe and comfortable at all times. We appreciate your cooperation during this transition.

And I sure hope this also goes for employees as well because 90% of the employees open carry there. I think this would be hypocritical if thats not the case.

Your opinions?

It's simple, go somewhere else! That would make Triangle Shooting Academy and you "safe and comfortable at all times".

Another state that is willfully disregarding the tenets of the 2A. Another state that would never be on our retirement list, as well as for some other less obvious reasons. I wonder how XD feels and hope we get his POV.

It's not the state imposing the policy, it's the private-sector company.

Hmmm, thanks. So, what in the heck would make a company that is supposed to be so entrenched in making gun owners happy do something that is such an affront to its customers? Interesting.

I don't live anywhere near Raleigh.

I'm thinking someone had a "OOPS" when changing from defensive ammo to practice ammo...

Why would anyone need to change out ammo in a store? The OP reads: "New Store Policy Effective immediately". It's a gun store and shooting range.

In any case, their new policy should have focused on getting gun owners the right training to not do whatever triggered their policy change. If someone can not safely unload and load a firearm, for example, then this would be a clear sign of lack of training. If someone unholsters a weapon in a store to see if another holster fits, then this is a clear sign of being stupid. I have no problem in shaming individual gun owners when they do stupid stuff. My airport has pictures of the guns they find at the security checkpoint. It's currently a Taurus TCP with the Hornady Critical Defense rounds it was loaded with.

As someone who used to work at a shooting range (in fact the original Triangle Shooting club on Glenwood Ave out by the airport) many years ago; we had a policy to inspect all firearms to be used on the range for safety and liability purposes. Nothing over the top just general condition stuff but you would be amazed at what we would find. I suspect they either have a similiar policy and don't want people pulling out loaded firearms on the staff or they had an A.D. Of course my experience was well before CHL was a "thing" so may not be apples to apples. We had a big sign on the door that said "no loaded weapons beyond this point"

Important to remember that on private property (whether the public is invited or not) you don't have the same entitlement to rights. You can however go elsewhere if you choose not abide by proprietors wishes and rules and express your concerns by their loss of revenue.

Just throw it in your range bag before you go in and clip it back on when you leave. Surely they are not searching bags.

If you haven't been swept by the muzzle of a loaded gun in a gun store, the store has little business, you don't spend much time in a gun stores, or the store has a no loaded gun policy.

I've seen and idiot pulling his carry piece, telling someone else "look at this beauty I carry" or similar.

There is a reason why gun stores may choose to implement a no loaded gun policy.
  • Liability, their insurance carrier makes it pretty much not an option.
  • The owner has been swept by a loaded gun in the hands of an idiot, or witnessed other customers being swept.
  • There has been a ND in the store, courtesy of an idiot that doesn't follow the basic gun safety rules.

Hey Guys....Triangle Shooting Academy has gotten a lot of back lash over this locally. I believe they have modified their decision slightly to allow for CC into the store. The owner posted on another forum and tried to explain his reasoning for him and his staff making this decision but it hasn't worked real well. I don't know any of the facts first hand but the owner did mention that there was a ND at one of the counters a week prior to this decision. The owner is as Pro 2nd Amendment as the rest of us and almost certain he knew he was going to catch some S#!% over this. This is nicest indoor range I have ever been to, never felt like I wanted to shoot there though, just too busy a place for my liking. I liked your comment XD.
