Best defense gun for wife

don't know about the rest of you but for my wife i told her to forget getting a handgun, grab the double barrell shotgun.

Double barrel shotgun is good for the home. What will she use for self defense if she's not home?

For my wife, she has a Mossberg 20ga for at home and a Sig 238 for travel.

The 238 fits her very small hands and the 380acp has enough stopping power.

That's gonna be a real pain in the azz to carry around in her purse! LOL

Seriously though.. Just pick something and have her spend the time to become proficient with it. IMO that takes a lot more than just a few boxes worth.

I completely agree. Though I carry a Sig P229 (40s&w), she has her Sig P238 which she loves. Load both with Hornady Critical Defense, and you're set.

The best gun for her is the one SHE picks.

My wife asked me for help, I took her to a range that rents guns and had her pick guns and shoot them. When she figure out what she wanted, she thought about it for a couple of days, then we went to a gun store and she bought them. She has three: 6" 686 with CT grips for home defense, 6" M17 .22LR for high volume practice, P238 for concealed carry.

She picked them, then looked at me because all but the P238 were used and she wanted to be sure they were OK. I agreed with her choices, she bought them, and the loves them. They are 'hers'. She has also started to shoot the .17HMR Savage rifle. She got her hunting license so she could shoot Ground Hogs in the back yard (we live on the corner of a farm). Trust me on this, she doesn't miss!

It was after all this, and after 40 years of marriage, I learned she used to deer hunt with her Dad when she was in High School. The woman continues to amaze me.

I said, "I should have asked."

She said, "Not really. It never came up, but now you know."

Let her try several until she finds one that feels right & she can hit the target with, 90 grains somewhere in the torso beats 230 grains whizzing past someones ear.

The best gun for your wife is the one she picks. American bedstands and gun safes are no doubt full of dusty firearms husbands foisted on their wives.

Hi James...I understand...the 12 ga. is just a bit much for my lovely bride...however, her G26 is perfect for her...

Wife carries Ruger LCR .357 Magnum. Loves it. Named it "Game Over". Wierd when she goes to Belks, Walmart, etc. Looks in purse for check book, pulls out carkeys, address book, Ruger, etc. No one has ever batted an eye. Of course, we live in the mountain areas of Western NC. Screw up here, someone will drop you like a bad habit.

Great story. I started laughing. My wife came over to read what was funny and broke out laughing too.

I don't know if it has been mention here yet, but for home only use the Tuarus Judge, or Smith Governor, would be a good choice, to big to carry, but loaded with a good personal defence ammo, a great nightstand gun
