Best concealed position

I just watched the video and read through some posts on fuhr52 "Lock and Load" thread, which is excellent.

I don't have my holster yet, (or CCW) but when I do, is there any studies that show which position to have the holster is actually faster?
2:00? 4:00? gun striaght up? Tipped forward? etc.

I am sure that will all these studies that are out, there has to be one that shows the laws of physics and which position gives you the best edge. When the difference between life and death could be measured in fractions of a second, I would rather start practicing with what will potentially give me the best advantage.

I could always be like the $6 million dollar man and get a bionic arm, but I am a little short of cash for that.

I prefer 3:30 to 4:00 with a 15* cant. OWB is most comfortable for me but I also carry IWB when I need deeper concealment. Good sturdy belt is important.

I carry my Nano about 2:00 IWB in a Crossbreed QuikTuk with no cant. Very comfortable after I broke in the holster. I tryed 3:00 to 4:00 but my shoulder doesn't like to rotate that far back.

I prefer appendix inside the waistband (AIWB) especially in the warmer months. It is faster for me and easier to access the pistol. Here comes the big "However", Although you must be very careful no matter how or where you carry, you must be even more attentive on drawing and re-holstering from AIWB, remember the pistol is usually pointing directly at your femoral artery or your genitals, your trigger finger discipline must be unfailing and all clothing must be clear of the trigger every time you re-holster. Some holsters & pistols are better suited for AIWB carry from a safety point of view. AIWB is not for the person who may have occasional lapses in attention. I frequently use a Raven VG2 or Fricke "Zack" which requires I remove it to put the pistol in and then replace it in position inside my pants/belt. My other holster is a Dale Fricke AA that I can re-holster with.

Lefty. 8:00 IWB or OWB.

The obvious answer to the question is the position that you feel most comfortable wearing it.

I carry at 4:00 most the time with a cross breed holster and M&P 40c. That's what's comfortable for me. You may be different. It depends on gun type and size, type of holster and body type. You will need to experiment to find what's comfortable for you. Your best defense is situational awareness and staying away from danger areas.

I think most people will tell you either OWB or IWB at anywhere from 3:00 to 5:00. What you are going to have to do is try it for you. You have to be comfortable while carrying or it will be miserable.

I think appendix is technically the fastest. It offers the shortest distance the gun needs to travel before you can be on target. But with practice you can be fast wherever you carry it... I'd like to carry at 1-2 o'clock, but it doesn't often work out for me. I'm bony and find it uncomfortable and difficult to conceal.

4:00 O'clock, canted forward.

I never notice it in that position, and can still draw when driving because it is behind the seatbelt.

When my permit comes in, I think I'm going to prefer carrying cross draw style with IWB about 1000. (I'm right handed.) It just seems the most comfortable all around, even while sitting. Allows for a quick draw and easy access while driving. Of course, I'll experiment with other positions. And there will be times when I pocket carry. My CCW is a S&W J frame .38.

I really think carry position greatly depends on: Body type, dexterity, weapon type or size, personal comfort.
I have been wearing glasses for 46 years. When I get a new pair it takes weeks to get used to the new fit.
I might be able to change holster position now, but it would feel weird and require retraining.
When you first strap that holster on find a spot you like and train with it. In an emergency your brain has so much to process that muscle memory has to be right on.

So far, the OP has many responses to his question, but none that answer his question of "Are there any studies......?

I'm guessing the answer would be: "Sorry, but we don't know if there are any studies that show what would be the best/fastest carry position."

No one can tell you the best concealed position, it comes down to the type of holster you have, the type of weapon your carrying and your body type (build). What might be comfortable for me might not be comfortable for you. You need to get a good quality holster and a good quality belt and then start trying different positions and cants on the holster until you find the sweet spot that works for you. It may take you several weeks of trying different things, but once you hit the sweet spot you will know it.

Yupper. Carry that shooter in the front of your pants so you can shoot yourself in the willy while trying to draw. That way you won't notice so much when the bad guy pounds you into pulp and takes your little popper. That's what an old cop told me many years ago.
I'll carry my gun outside my pants like the big boys do, thanks.
