Best Concealed Carry for my Wife?

My wife has come to the conclusion that she is ready to carry a weapon daily. She is 5'11", 175, so she can handle recoil. I like my LC9 and think she would do well with another one, although one with a laser. I appreciate any advice on past experience, best pistol for a woman to carry, etc.

I think the LC9 would be a good choice. It's easy to use and the spring isn't heavy for loading it. My wife has trouble with my glock because of the heavy spring. It would also be nice to be able to practice together with the same gun and the same ammo. I also like a hammer less revolver for someone that is new to guns. There is very little to go wrong, and they don't jam.

I've been looking at the Taurus PT-738 and the Ruger LCP (.380) pocket rockets for my wife. Not sure about LCP, but you can get the PT-738 frame in yellow or rasberry - that's if the lady is concealing in the purse - for her ease of identifying it amongst the other contents in the purse. I've shot the LCP and it handles nicely, but the PT-738 has a better feel in the hand.

It is wonderful that she has come to that conclusion.

As others will surely suggest, she needs to handle and shoot a variety of possibilities and see what she likes and works best for her. Even going about it that way does not guarantee success on the first try. Most of us have been through a few before finding The One.

Having lots of experience with a bunch of different guns and good training, my wife and daughter chose guns I would not have recommended to them. Since there are many variables, some of them purely subjective, you really cannot pick a "best" gun for another.

Good luck and keep us posted!

My wife took the concealed carry course first and used her Dad's 22 revolver. She did great on the range. I let her try out my CZ 75 9mm, she did great with it. We bought a Ruger Mark III 22/45 for qa family Christmas present, and she did great with it. so when we went to find her a gun, she had some knowledge as to what she wanted. Lightwieght, comfortable fit, safety, concealable in purse. her choice the Ruger LC9 with laser sights.

There is no question the advice above about her handling/shooting different guns is solid! My wife was looking at small 9mm single-stacks of various makes. Our gun shop has a range, and we rented several for her to shoot. She settled on a Kahr PM9. Then the owner let her fire his personal Springfield XD9 sub-compact and she fell in love. A hair chunkier than the Kahr, but it felt good and she liked how it shot, so there ya go. Your wife's size, she will have no problems concealing an XD9. Good luck mate!

Bring her to a gun store with a shooting range so she can try different ones and will have a better chance of choosing one that will suit her. After that you'll have to psyche her into choosing a caliber the same as you have so you'll save on ammo. It can be discouraging when after a shot your partner will mutter ... there goes another dollar ... but you get what I mean...

My wife first bought a Walther PK380, but felt it was a little bigger than she wanted, now owns a Sig P238. Both slides were very easy to rack, and the felt recoil is negligible.

I have a Taurus TCP (.380) and love it! I wanted something small enough that if I needed to carry on my person that it would be small enough. I am 5'6" and 105 lbs so I needed something pretty small. I even went with the pink one. I have now been looking at the Kimber Solo just because it has the added feature of a safety. I am not a big fan of the laser sights that mount to the front of the trigger guard (like on my Taurus). I guess I will just have to get over it, to carry small.
