Belt Loops...Yes, that's right...Belt loops.

A question occurred to me as I was putting on my holster this morning.

Do you usually place your holster "between" two belt loops, or over one of them?

For me, it depends on which holster I use. For my .45 I have 2, one is flatter and rides higher than the other. Both are OWB. Right now I'm wearing the Galco holster between the loops. This puts my weapon at 4 O'clock. Sometimes I place it over 1 loop so that the belt threads like this...holster slot-->belt loop-->holster slot.

For my .38, I have an IWB holster that is more comfortable between my belt and my pants rather than inside the pants. I've never been comfortable IWB.

Yeah, I know its kind of a stupid question, and it probably depends on the pants, the weight of the weapon, etc.

It depends where the loops are on the pants but if I'm using an IWB holster I like to put the loops (of the holster) one on each side of a belt loop.

I put my OWB holster on my belt, put my belt thru a loop then put the belt back thru the other side of the holster. Otherwise it's too far forward or too far back and I don't want to leave the belt outside a loop or the holster might hang out further.

Depends on what pants I'm wearing. I prefer to carry mine at the 4 o'clock position which makes it straddle the second beltloop.

Belt Loops

I carry my XD-40 in one of two holsters. One is the holster that came in the kit with the gun, and I wear it pushed up against the belt loop on the right hip, which puts it at about 4 o'clock. I also have a Blackhawk Serpa on a paddle that I wear between 4 and 5 o'clock. The magazine holder has two loops, so I position the left side belt loop between the loops on the holder, which keeps it secure in one spot. I also wear a pair of Perry suspenders that keeps the weight of the equipment off of my hips.

I have to agree with many above. It all depends on the holster, the weapon, and the layout of the belt loops on the pants. Carrying concealed everyday at work I will vary how I use the belt loops, as they are different on each brand of pants, so that my holster is in the same place all the time. Keeps my weapon in the same place for the muscle memory of the draw every time. That's what is important to me.

If Cleveland Holster, one clip each side of the belt loop.
If Blackhawk Sepa I split the loops.

All around 4 O'Clock.

I always wear my Kahr CW45 in a Slide Guard from High Noon Holsters over the 3-o'clock belt loop. Every pair of jeans I've ever owned had a belt loop at 3-o'clock, so I can't see a situation where I would need to alter the position of my holster. The extra magazine holder goes just in front of the 6-o'clock belt loop.

I have a mitch rosen ARG that only has a single loop for the belt, although I find it a Very comfortable holster, it does tend to work it way from my preffered 4:30 position towards the 5 O'clock position because there is no belt loop to keep it from moving in that direction, So I will have the better half sew another belt loop on so it doesnt move around. As I am new to this I must say that carrying my Glock 23 over the holiday's was not as big of a deal as some would have led me to believe. It was well hidden under a sweatshirt and no jacket. I was in busy public places and was not worried about being "made"!

Whatever fits and is useably comfortable.

Always carry the same model of weapon in the same holster in the same place on your body. Don't go switching around. Murphy's Law =Someday you might instinctively reach for your gun that isn't there.

For example: always a 1911 type, or always a Glock, or always a DA revolver, etc.

You don't want to reach for a hip holster when you have a shoulder holster on,

nor do you want to pull a Glock trigger and realize you have your locked 1911 today.

I don't care how much you practice, when you are startled and grab for your weapon it better be where your subconscious training says it is.

Some scoff at my carry, but it has been in the same concealed holster for 31 years, and ya, I have figured out how to get it in action from under all types of clothing.

I cary my Ruger in a IWB that i designed myself and it fits behind the belt loop at about 4 o'clock. My OWB is also handmade and fits on either side of the belt loop to keep it in place.

It depends on the pants. Sometimes i use all the loops, sometimes i don't. I usually use an NRA Slide Holster at 3:00, but depending on my cover garment I may move to 2:00 or 4:00.
I don't really need all the loops these days because i've started to wear suspenders under my untucked shirt most of the time, to keep my pants up, and my belt is just to keep the 2 and a half pound gun up.

Awesome topic! I was about to post the exact same question, so thank you! I find it annoying that all pants aren't the same LOL....I like mine around 2-4 o'clock...but it's hard with all the different patterns....

I carry OWB and always tween. Dependant on the pants is weather my 1911 is at the 3:00 or 4:00 pos. As for the Murphy's Law syndrome, if I can't tell where my 45 is , I better start leaving it at home. One click on the tick ain't gonna matter.

I have worn Levi jeans, it seems like forever. I finally got frustrated with the pricing and decided to try a different brand. (Carharts) The loops have just a little different location. I really messed up my normal set up. But Dockers have a different set-up as well. I still use all of the loops to help control shifting when I sit down and get up. As others have noted, I want that pistol in exactly the same spot at all times.

Good luck when you change brands, (or lose weight!) makes for some fun.
