Before someone yells at me "Its a gun thing, you wouldn't understand"

I am just a little curious about arsenal size.
Was talking with some friends a little but ago and the subject of the number of weapons came up.
One guy had over 20 weapons.
One guy had over 30 weapons.
One guy had so many he just spent over $2400 on a safe that holds over 60 weapons.

Now, I understand having a favorite for concealed.
and I understand having a few hidden around house for ready access,
But, how many is enough?

I have a very small budget for firearms and accessories, so I will have to get stuff slowly,
But if you find a gun that feels great, and shoots great, why buy more?

Can someone enlighten me without making too much of my obvious ignorance?

It all depends on who is defining the term. How many of anything is too much? You are asking a question that has no clear answer.

what if your only gun breaks? what about different purpose guns... hunting, target, self defense, home defense, antique, black powder, auto, semi auto, single shot, lever action... the list goes on and on.... Do you only have one wrench in your toolbox? Do you only have one type of pants? shirts? shoes?

Another aspect that is more the case for myself is that firearms will always be worth something, so whenever I have enough money on hand, I invest in firearms vs putting money in the bank. I dont trust that banks will always be around, they may close tomorrow and I wont be able to get what money I do have in there, what then? I am not talking about buying collectable guns, in fact I tend to buy cheaper (scratched, slightly rusted or dented) used firearms over new ones because I am only interested in function... Others like high dollar works of art that just also happen to be firearms...

There is just so many aspects to this that there is no right answer.... although there are a few wrong ones, the main one being that you dont need or shouldnt be allowed to have any...

It's pretty much been covered but just like some folks collect model cars (or in Leno's case real cars) and some folks collect stamps some people collect guns.

Like George Carlin used to say, "If you nail two things together that have never been nailed together before someone will buy it." Anything in the world that is made, someone, somewhere collects them

As I said to my mother, how many pairs of shoes do you have? How many can you wear at once?

  • Do you wear flip flops to the office?
  • Do you wear dress shoes to muck out a stable?
  • Do you wear galoshes in August?

I:
  • am a bullseye competitor.
  • shoot 600 and 1,000 yard long range.
  • carry a concealed handgun for self-defense.
  • occasionally go hunting.
What ONE gun do you suggest for ALL of those activities?

Should I carry my .30-06 Savage 112 BVSS for self defense?

Should I hunt deer with my 2" S&W Model 36?

Should I use my 6" S&W Model 29-2 for the rimfire match of NRA conventional pistol? Will anybody LET me?

It makes no more sense for me to use one gun for EVERYTHING than it does for my only footwear to be swim fins.

I guess you all said that perfect. I was looking at only one part of it, that being for protection.
And I like that guns are an investment than banks. That is too true.
Thanks all

Guns are like cheerleaders - one'll do, but you can never have too many.

Some people have large arsenals because they are collectors. Jay Leno only drives one car at a time, but he has hangars full of them, because he's a collector.
Some of us just have a hard time selling what we'e bought, so ourcollection grows.
Personally, I have quite a few historic/collector/antique firearms from the 40s/50s/60s, some Winchester commemoratives, a bunch of small bore handguns and rifles for training/teaching/fun, I have a couple of carry guns, and some specialized weapons for home and (constitutional) defence. Precision rifles, SBRs, AR pistol, that sort of thing.

Who came up with the conclusion that there was an enough? Who made that determination that people are trying to disprove? If I can afford it what business is it of anyone but my spouse?

I haven't read the posts, only the original post, but guns are tools. You need different tools for different jobs. Then if you happen to actually like guns and want certain guns because you enjoy them (sporting, collecting, etc), then it's easy to see how a collection of guns can add up.

Warbirds, I think that is a key. If money was plentiful, we would all have too many to count

Unless you keep them in the kitchen, why is it even her business?

(hehe just kidding)

They are self protection tools. I have a sidearm, long arm, and my wife has a sidearm. Three tools for jobs I hope they never have to clock-in for.

That's it.

IF I had the money I would try to own at least one gun that had ever been made. I do believe it would be a blast to shoot each one!

Hey, it would beat the heck out of collecting baseball cards that you just look at!!! :yes4:
