BB/Pellet gun.....

I'm looking to buy my son a BB/pellet gun for Christmas. Looking for one in the 800 - 1000fps range. Any type/manufacturers to stay away from? Most come with a 3-9x32 scope. I would like one that shoots both BB's and pellets. Thanks for your help.
