The suspect began acting irrationally, according to Happy. He was aggressive and started running toward the entrance of the counter as if he were going to go back into the register area.

"He tried to run around and he had a knife and he tried to attack," said Happy.

That's when Pardeep Singh pulled his gun and shot at the suspect, striking him at least once in the head.

He did what he had to do!

The bad guy died today. Been in the hospital since his failed robbery attempt that got him shot in the head.

I live in Battle Creek, but don't ordinarily read the local left-wing paper. I DID read the article today and noticed the reporter who has been around awhile, referred to the shooting as a homicide. Seems like the reporter has convicted the shooter or is this a proper reference?

The investigation is still ongoing, and no charges have been brought against the convenience store clerk to this point. You should know that even if the store clerk is cleared, the shooting will still be categorized as justifiable homicide.

I think it can be a proper reference depending on the words surrounding its usage. Technically, a homicide is defined as the killing of a human being. The words surrounding its usage define the user's intentions. A "justifiable homicide" doesn't imply criminal activity, but a "premeditated homicide" might, or a "wanton, heartless, bloodthirsty homicide" certainly would.

If the reporter you referred to used the word by itself, and didn't include any visible tells or vocal inflections that would suggest he was using the word as synonymous with "murder," then it's probably a proper reference, which would be a surprise coming from most TV reporters. ;-)~

Thanks, Blues. Makes sense. When I read the article, for some reason I saw the term homicide (in my mind a justifiable shooting) as synonymous with the word murder.
