But the school district Supt. isn't allowing them to carry on the job. He might think about it if this "becomes a best practice..." The police chief is on to an interesting idea. Recruit teachers/staffers to the reserve force, deputize them, and send them back to their day jobs.

Interesting. Not only could it deter shooters, how many students do you think will mess with a teacher who has arrest authority? :triniti:

The school superintendant is more worried about being politically correct than the safety of the children. People need to grow a set of cajones, especially if they are in a management position and stand up to a backward world. We are getting worse by the day!

One person responding to the report on WOOD TV accused the chief of trying to institute martial law! I think I might look into our reserve unit. Could be interesting! Anyone on the forum a member of your local police reserve unit? What does it entail?

I think the police chief is on the right track. I also think that the "school free zone" law is not a law at all. It infringes on the original rights and therefore must be repealed. The way to go about it is get our States on the ball. I don't know how to do that... yet.

Anything we do to increase carry rights in Michigan is going to require a veto-proof majority. Snyder showed his true colors when he first required the elimination of open carry in a PFZ as a requirement for his signature on SB 59, and then shot it down because it didn't give public schools and other public offices the specific legal right to "ban firearms" (his words). Whatever is going to be done will need to happen in the very near future. Both Snyder and Grand Rapids Mayor Heartwell are supporters of Bloomberg (Heartwell is a member of MAIG and is on the record that his goal is to force legislation through the state legislature that will ban firearms carry in public meetings and churches). While the rank and file of Michigan citizens are mostly in favor of expanding carry rights, Bloombergians have managed to work their way into positions of influence in the state and are pursuing the dismantling of our rights. In short, Snyder isn't going to sign anything that doesn't give every type of organization/office/business the specific legal right to ban firearms.

Police reserves are different from one to another. Call your local department and ask them the questions you have because anything you get here is likely to be different.
