Bang for your buck: Best handguns under $500

Glad to see Ruger do so well. I have had mine for over 4 years and love it. Tried others but my SR9 felt best. ought from a local gun shop, paid $484. I know you can buy cheaper at big box stores, but I prefer to deal with a local.

My SR9 is my go to weap. Feels great. Shoots straight. Very comfortable.

Ruger and Bersa did well. Another gun to look at is the Stoeger Cougar 9mm made on Beretta machines, all metal, eats any ammo, and accurate.
A very good gun. :dirol:

Great, an anti-gun hotbed like the Washington times having an article about guns. I just purchased a new pistol that was about half of the guns in your list, has a lifetime (of the gun) warranty, goes bang every time you pull the trigger, and IMHO, is superior to the guns shown. Don't get me wrong, there were some great guns in your list, like the Rugers and the Smith M&P. But the Micro Eagle? Looks like a friggin' toy and sells for twice what I paid for my new pistol. And of course, Glock had a few entries. I had one when they first came to the states, and I felt they sucked, and still do. I bought a Hi-Point .40 S&W pistol at Cabela's for under $200. It has a 10 +1 capacity, is made in the US, and has the added benefit that the magazines and ammo interchange with my Hi-Point .40 S&W carbine. I used to carry an XD-40, great gun, but I can buy two carbines or three pistols branded Hi-Point for what that one pistol cost. I have heard all the crap about monkey guns and how bad Hi-Points are, but the people who spread those lies never got familiar with Hi-Point. I will put my pistol and carbine up against any pistol and rifle you want to compare.

Are you going by weight? if so you win......

just messin with you, I like highpoints.... I would just never carry one, too bulky.

For less than their $500 price target, I bought 2 great dependable guns with lifetime warranties. I paid $289.99 for a S&W SD9VE that is a very close copy of a Glock 19. I paid $199.99 for a Taurus TPC that is similar in size to the Ruger LCP except it is more comfortable to shoot and has a last shot hold open. I would buy them again.

The Sig P250 should be on that list. I have one in 40sw and reliable to no end. The bonus is it's modular, it can be a 380, 9mm, 357sig, 40sw and 45acp with three different sizes of grips, barrels and slides. Mix and match to your pleasure.

It has a long trigger like a revolver but easy pull and smooth. Also less parts and a simple build.

Hmmm...no CZs? My CZ P-07 cost $454 (+ Tax etc.) and I wouldn't trade it for anything on that list. But, that's me. :yes4:

SR9c for me too. I have big hands and the grip is very comfortable. Hard to find a concealable like that these days.

Another option to consider is Police trade in 3rd Generation Smith and Wesson pistols like the 5906, 3913, 4006 and the like. Most show exterior wear with little on the inside.
