Badger and Blade. Who shaves with them?

Just wondering who shaves with brushes and double edge or straight razors. I have been for about a month now and wow, what a shave. For me its Castle Forbes shaving cream, Edwin Jagger brush, Merkur razor and Gillette Silver Blue blades.

Just out of curiosity, I started looking into these items.

How much did all that gear run you?

And is the shave worth it considering I spend about $30 for 20 safety razors and shave in the shower so I don't use shaving cream.

I guess what I'm also asking is, what makes the shave so much better?

You also take the top layer of skin. The atypical block (alum block) closed the pores and surface bleeders. Then the balm.
It's different for all with different hair types.

Over the years, I've tried electric razors, but always end up coming back to the brush. I do NOT use a straight razor and have succumbed to the times, using a multi-blade razor. Got to admit they seem sharper than the old double edged Gillette I began with. Not sure why I keep with it. Just a comforting, familiar process, I guess. And, except for the the cost of a modern razor, shaving soap for a mug is pretty inexpensive.

A mug and brush, and an old razor that I can't remember the maker of, and Wilkinson blades makes a good shaving kit. I have done the straight razor shaving thing, but unless I have more time, and no distraction, I'm not real comfortable with it.

I am pushing 70 and have shaved with a mug, a brush, and soap, all my life. The only time I used canned shave cream was in boot camp. I have saved many a dollar over the last 55 years of shaving. Here's another penny saver. I use the "soap slivers" to shave with. You know, that's the small slivers of soap nobody wants to use in the shower. I save them in a zip lock bag and use them in my shave mug. Been using nothing but badger brushes also.
