backup gun

I have a UT non resident permit and my main carry gun is a Springfield XD9 sub compact. I have been considering a backup gun, can you carry 2 in NC?

The statutes don't specifically mention more-than-one/multiples being allowed or not. The language used indicates singularity, but I suppose that's open to interpretation.
