assault rifle- which brand to buy ??

Gonna be getting a AR this next month, and am slightly overwhelmed by the selection and variety to choose from. Looks like DPMS or maybe Bushmaster is leading the pack right now.
The Bushmaster M-4 type A-TACS in .223 with 16" barrel looks pretty sweet !!
Any input would be appreciated !

Assault Rifle? No No... Automatic Rifle:biggrin:

I would never own an "Assault Rifle" for fear of the uncontrollable violence they are capable of.:sarcastic:

I've been looking at a Stag flat top upper to add to my Colt for optics. My Colt has the carry handle. The other manufacturer I'm considering is LMT (Lewis Machine and Tool co.). Have read good things... Smith and Wesson is the other choice for me. I'm partial to S&W... And for the disclaimer, I'm not an expert...

Good luck and keep us posted.

Peace...

What are you planning on using it for? Based on that I might be able to offer a more precise suggestion. While no eggspurt I have owned a couple of AR's & have my own observations.

In general I would suggest your check out Double Star. They are a relatively new company & as such their AR prices arent out of this world yet. I own one & am impressed enough with it that I will buy from them again!

Home defense, shooting it mostly on the range. Double Star looks like a good gun.
Not looking to go too spendy, going to probably get it mid august at a gun show near here.

My 6 Bushmasters. I also own Colt, LWRC, and a Rock River Arms. All are nice, but for value, price, and the most gun for the money it's pretty hard to beat a Bushmaster. Bill T.

I have a friend that owns a Bushmaster and he competes with it and swears by it. I'll have to look there for an upper also.

I like #2 from the left.

That is the Bushmaster Modular Carbine.

My Colt is a pre-ban A2 w/ carry handle. I'd like to get a flat top upper for now to mount optics and try that. I bought the Millett DMS-1 and played with the carry handle mount so far. I'd rather it be closer to the bore line. In the future I'll build a lower and use the flat top upper with the finished result from that experiment.

Peace...

First and foremost I am not an expert by any means; just got my first AR as well. All depends what you’re looking for. I just got one a few months ago myself. Personally I like what I got from Spikes Tactical. Been told by gun shops that Bushmaster isn’t what they use to be. I went and test fired a Bushmaster and didn’t like it. I was going in the same direction till I looked at Spikes I was talked out of LMT, Colt and Bushmaster. Now I liked the feel of the Spikes I thought it was put together better than some of the others. There was a lot of slop (rattle) in the LMT etc. the Spikes was a solid rifle. I am not saying that my Spikes is better if you build a rifle but, what I am saying is my Spikes as good as any already put together LMT, Colt and for less money. Now I did upgrade some things that brought the price up like trigger and Daniel Defense Rails, Magpul Moe stock etc. If you haven’t already go to: Comparison Chart of Major AR Brands - M4Carbine.net Forums and look around there. They have a lot of beginner material and technical based threads. Good luck

Great comments, suggestions and photos by all !! Greatly appreciated.
Just got back from a local gun shop, they have a Bushmaster O.R.C. (optics ready carbine) .223 w/ 16" barrel
he'll sell to me, along with a 30mm red dot scope for under a grand. I'm thinking this is a pretty sweet deal. He also offered to knock off a buck per box for ammo.
Haven't yet made up my mind, but I'll admit I'm leaning that way. LOL

The Bushmaster Optics Ready Carbine is a very good weapon. Many are sold every year, and they perform well. For the price it is a hard gun to beat. Bill T.

AR 15 (Non Assault Rifle)

Well, I built mine on a DPMS, Stag, and Rock River. If you really want to get to know the AR put your own together.
