The U.S. Army wants to create specific physical fitness tests aimed at ensuring that soldiers can meet the physical challenges of their jobs in wartime.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Raymond Odierno is waiting on a recommendation that would create PFTs that are designed around the physical requirements of military occupational specialties such as infantry, cavalry, armor and others.

"I expect that the in the next several months Training and Doctrine Command will come forward with a recommendation," Odierno said during a Jan. 6 virtual Town Hall meeting with soldiers across the Army.

My Thoughts: This is really a wrong idea. Even though you might be a paper pusher in the rear, if the sh!t hit's the fan, your ass is going to be a trigger puller to save your ass alongside all of the other grunts. This is just the PC bull sh!t that I would contribute to some stupid people in the Obama government who don’t have a dammed clue what really happens where things get bad really quick.

As far as I know everyone in the Army has 11B listed as one of their MOS's. At least that's the way it was when I was in 30 years ago.

Um, yeah. I pulled out my 201 file and there's nothing like that in there. And I used to jump out of airplanes on a monthly basis for a few years so I'm not that far from the front.

And there shouldn't be unless you've been trained in infantry tactics, how to operate light, medium and heavy machine guns, how to prepare a range card, and operate and maintain night vision equipment amongst other things.

Combat Support units may have some of the above organic to their equipment, but I'll guarantee a soldier in a Combat Service Support unit hasn't seen a M249 since basic.

If the intent of this proposed change is truly to ensure soldiers can meet the physical demands of their wartime jobs, I wonder if the standards will truly become gender-neutral.

What Army was this, certainly not ours?

It has never been the case in my twenty and some years Army life.

While I do not agree with you that this has anything to do with Obama, I do agree with you that this is a mistake and that every soldier should be considered infantry first.
