~The Dude Abides~
On Tuesday night, an armed would-be robber approached a Miami man outside his apartment building and demanded his belongings.

Though it is not clear why, the robber then shot the victim in the hand. He didn’t know it at the time, but it would turn out to be a senseless violent act that cost him his life.

The victim, whose injury was said to be non-life threatening, then pulled out his own handgun in self-defense and shot his attacker several times. The violent robber later died at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital due to his injuries.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. When police arrived, they found two men had been wounded, one critically.

Chalk another one up for the good guys! OORAH!! :-)

Wonder why we're not hearing about this in the media? I'm gonna guess that it's because it wasn't a white man shooting a Black man.

You know, this really saddens me. The fact that this man had to waste several rounds on a POS criminal in this time of widespread ammo shortages is tragic.

True, but it's better than taking the chance of just wounding him. My CC instructor told me I can't shoot them again once they're on the ground. So...better to make sure before they fall.

Response to story: HA HA HA HA! Good for you, sucka! And good for the citizen who shot your mangy ass.

To Stantheman1976: I really love ironic sarcasm as humor. Good one, Stan.

To Peggy: So what does your instructor say about a perp who is on the ground and still trying to stab or shoot you? Or is that his way of saying 'make sure the attacker is dead when he hits the ground'? (I'm assuming it's the latter)

This same thing happens many time in Tulsa ,Oklahoma. Lady was in her Auto last Month this thug walked up and just shot her through cars window, reached in grabbed her handbag and ran off. She was shot in the leg but he just shot had no idea where he would hit her and cared less. It's happened also at others sites in Tulsa even when the people give up their wallets and cell phones, the thugs still shoot them in a foot or leg. Just seems a standard item with some "unnamed type" thugs. Hmmmmm. wonder who these thugs are..

Well, according to him, I can't shoot him again if he's no longer a threat. Presumably if he's laying on the ground, he's no longer a threat. However if he was still trying to stab or shoot me, you can be sure he'd get a couple more point blank. (And probably even if he wasn't.)

Your instructor is wrong. You can continue to shoot as long as they're still a threat. Standing or laying on the ground doesn't matter. Would you quit shooting if the BG, laying on the ground, kept shooting or pointing a gun at you? I think not.

To clarify, I CAN keep shooting as long as they're a threat. That's all good. But according to the instructor, if they are laying on the ground, no longer armed, I'd better not go finish them off. But I still probably would as long as there was a weapon within their reach. Actually my instructor would probably say at that point, I should be running away.

While I will never celebrate the death of any human being, this victim refused to be one. My cheers go to him for realizing his security lies on his shoulders and his shoulders alone. I wish it hadn't had to go to that point, however he was armed, trained and ready to defend himself and did exactly that. This is why I carry every day.

Sad when anyone has to die, but cheers to the potential victim who says "If it must be so, it will not be me!"

When will he testify before congress?

I would beg to differ with that instruction. If they're on the ground, still holding a weapon pointed in your direction, they're still a threat.

We must always avoid generalities.

Luckily for me, all my guns fire pretty fast. (Because they're always oiled.) I could probably put 8 in a guy before he started to fall. If I use my P22, I can probably put all 10 in him and reload and squeeze a few more off before he hit the ground.

I love European guns.

Great, one for the good guys. You aren't seeing this on national news because it shows the benefits of firearm ownership. The liberal newsies do not want to make this point.

...Actually my instructor would probably say at that point, I should be running for cover.
Fixed it for you.

"Running away" from the scene of the crime could be very hard for your attorney to explain in court.

I think I understand where your instructor is coming from, but, as others said, I'd rather keep shooting and moving and looking for cover until the aggressor is no longer a threat or I run out of boolits, at wish point, I should have found cover.

This is why you have to carry on the fight even though you have been wounded. He may have been hit but, he is still alive and the bad guy is dead. This is another reason for off hand (weak) train. If you don't train with your weak hand you should.

I wounder why a couple of our poster had to go and play the race card. I live in MI and I rarely here what goes on in FL. It should be obvious that the story got out because we are reading about it here. I am sure that the race card player did not here about the teacher/coach that was escorting two of his female basketball players to their car and had to shot two robbers. He killed one and put the other one in the hospital. I am also sure that he did not here about the man who was on the way home from work and had to shot a robber at the bus stop. By the way, the shooters were black and the robbers were also black. I try not to get caught up in the race thing. I have lived long enough and am to old for that stuff. As long as the gun community continues to make it about other things besides "Guns" prices of guns and ammo will continue to increase and we will have people after us.
