A police officer who dropped off his daughter at her Phoenix elementary school was asked by the school’s principal not to wear his uniform to the school because other parents were concerned that he was carrying a gun, MyFoxPhoenix.com reported.

Scott Urkov is a police officer for the Coolidge Police Department. The department told him not to comment to media inquiries, but immediately after he received the no-uniform request, he posted on Facebook.

Dear DR. Reid, I cannot believe that you would even consider asking a law enforcement officer, Who is there to protect you, to disarm and to not wear his uniform. You sir, is exactly what's wrong with our government today. You OWE the public and that officer a heartfelt apology in my opinion. Furthermore, I certainly hope you are not teaching your students that this kind of behavior is acceptable. Questioning authority was and is a basic building block in American history, but nobody including you have the right to tell a Law Enforcement Officer to disarm or not wear his uniform. You really need to take a look at your position and the law before returning to work.

Don't get me wrong and I didn't go into details in the email. I know that if the officer was in the wrong then it would be right to ask or force him to disarm but this situation is exactly what is wrong with our country regarding gun rights. Too many people think that "We" should not own or have access to guns and this is just a tactic by an anti gun nut to send the wrong information about guns.

If there was a shooting or hostage situation at that school, I wonder what those imbeciles would say if the cops told them that there'd be a slight delay because they're stopping to take off their uniforms... and locking their guns up in their police cars.

Insert the word, "police" instead of the word "germans" in the link. This is probably how the principal sees anyone with a gun. I hope he (policeman) comes after eating breakfast. If he takes a bite out of a pop-tart and a teacher thinks it looks like a gun, he will be suspended from "teaching moments" at that school.

So SAY there is an active shooter at their school, would they like the Police to drop their weapons at the edge of the property and go running in using nice words as weapons? It was intended as a (somewhat) tongue-in-cheek quip about the trustworthiness of cops to be "protectors" as opposed to abusers these days. Just exercising my minority status on this site of thinking most people give cops way more automatic respect than the profession deserves anymore. To me, the very fact that non-cops likewise can't carry in that school, and yet everyone is saying what a stupid thing it is that cops can't either, is proof enough that cops are held in higher esteem by the very people whose rights would be trampled upon if they ever carried into that school and that same cop responded and arrested them after whining on Twitter or FaceBook about being asked to disarm himself. Both the cop and the people who he would arrest for the same "offense" think he holds a higher status in life than the rest of us. I find that a kind of Stockholm Syndrome thought-process.

It's a comment on our rights, not about the cop's gun. I made it admittedly somewhat vague, but I did think at least that much would be obvious.

I did get a response to my email so I thought it would be appropriate to post the principals reply here for you guys/gals to read.

Thank you for sharing your concerns with me. Mesa Public Schools respects and appreciates the contributions of our dedicated law enforcement officers. The media inaccurately portrayed recent events regarding an officer in uniform at Entz Elementary School. The SWAT officer and all police officers are welcome on campus in uniform. The SWAT officer and I were already working together, and are continuing to do so, to educate the school community on the uniqueness of his uniform and position.
