Yesterday, the Arizona state Senate passed an important hunter protection bill by a 21 to 7 vote. House Bill 2457, which passed in the House by a 54 to 4 vote on March 5, would allow hunters to carry a handgun for self-defense while in the field. HB 2457 will now be sent to Governor Jan Brewer for her approval.

Sponsored by state Representative Brenda Barton (R-5), HB 2457 would allow an individual to carry an additional firearm for personal protection while hunting, as long as that firearm is not used for the taking of wildlife. This bill simply provides hunters with the ability to adequately defend themselves from a variety of potential outdoor crimes. With the surge in violence along Arizona’s southern border, this common sense bill would enable law-abiding hunters to defend themselves.
