My CZ 97B 45ACP is a protector in the cityscape.

And my Smith & Wesson model 29 is a protector in the forests and mountains of California.

I'm not sure. Zimmerman thought he was protecting when he was really paranoid, profiling, and off his meds at the worst possible time.

To be perfectly honest “sheep dogs” scare me, they strike me as the type of person that is carrying a gun just waiting for a chance to be “a hero”. It’s been my experience that people that want to be heroes tend to blow a situation out of proportion in their quest to fulfill the “sheep dog” role.

Grossman’s “Sheep, Sheepdogs and Wolves” was mainly directed at professional soldiers and police officers it was never intended to be a Raison d'être for concealed carry permit holders. It’s an analogy and like all analogies its flawed and you don’t have to take it too far to find the flaws.

Grossman gives lectures in many gun clubs around the country, may I suggest that attend on of his lectures. You will have a different opinion after hearing his lecture.

There actually are some good points in your first post. I go to church, I donate to the food bank, I try to be nice to the neighbors, I'm more than happy to help some old lady change a tire and I have no problem with calling the police if needed but that’s where it ends.

I see too many people who get a permit and suddenly think they’re Joe Friday, that’s kinda scary to me. I said it in the post you quoted but a lot of those folks come off to me like they can not wait to spring into action and be a hero, like they still live in fantasy land.

If you look around this forum you’ll find that most of the “sheep dogs” are a little on the authoritarian side, they’re generally the same folks that tell you, you should waive your rights any time you interact with the cops. “After all you have nothing to hide”.

I also see a lot of self proclaimed “sheep dogs” beating their chests right here on this forum and condemning anyone who doesn’t share their world view as a coward or an anti social psychopath.

I carry to protect myself and family members. After that, it's a case by case basis. The scenarios and variables are endless. The State of Iowa insists on continuing a position of ignorance when it comes to Stand Your Ground and Castle Doctrine legislation. In other words, my position would have to be undeniably obvious in order to come to another person or person's aid in a given situation. People have a choice to carry or not to carry. I'm not going to ruin my life because they choose to walk, talk, and act like sheep. Can also think of a couple situations where one with any conscience at all would have to help, but damn few.

Think good witness first and go from there.

I refuse to accept that title because of the behavior of some of those who crave the title.

My philosophy is that people that want to be “sheep dogs” tend to push themselves into other people’s business needlessly and that is by far my worst pet peeve. I don’t like people I don’t know in my business, not even just a little bit.
