Are ya'll ready for a little revolution?

It would be nice to separate California, that way one state would not have so much freaking power over our electorial college. All the fruits, nuts, and flakes could stay in the (north\south) and the other half could gain the respect of the nation for having the fortitude to become humans again.

The governor claims it was meant in humor. I certainly hope so... Not the best joke to play, though.

(Also, that would be closer to fascism, not socialism. Socialism is "all property owned by the people as a whole", and has nothing to do with how leaders are chosen. I notice the Right using "socialism" completely wrong fairly often.)

There was a semi-serious attempt at splitting CA a couple decades ago that failed. What I remember most from it was a part of the debate where the 'pro split' (from the North) and 'anti split' (from the South) spokespersons were talking about what to call the states (approximate quotes):

South: So what do you propose we call them? We won't accept "North California" and "South California"?
North: We were thinking of calling the North "Greater California".
South: Why don't you just tell it like it is and call yourselves "Baja Oregon"?

I laughed out loud at that one.

There was also a push for a new "State of Jefferson" that included Northern California and Southern Oregon. It was a fairly serious push right before WW2, that died when Pearl Harbor was attacked. It has a mostly tongue-in-cheek identity now. Jefferson (Pacific state) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jefferson - The 51st State - Northern California / Southern Oregon - A State of Mind

Vaguely related is the also mostly tongue-in-cheek call for Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia to separate from the US and Canada to form the country "Cascadia". (Certain subcultures up here embrace this 'country' with fervor in full humor; and there are even some small groups that take the call for independence completely seriously.)

The problem with that idea is that the newly created Californian states would have more net total political power. Each new state would add two new senators to the U.S. Senate and two more electors to the electoral college.

No rational thinking person would assign a D to their name let alone a R. Sorry Mr. Ed, you suck. The D's are the enemy and using Hoffa's terms, must be taken out. Spin it how ever it suits you, in the end it is all dog squeeze.
Crediblity diminishes when ever a D is assigned. Not to smart unless some alterior motive. That would be like Glenn Beck posting on Moveon.org....just doesn't fit.

True. Better we just cede it back to Mexico. Why not? The taxpayers are footing the bills for more Mexican Citizens than American anyway. (I know.... exaggeration. But.... How much of one?)

I'm sure the Mexican Government, such as there IS one, can't possibly screw that State up any more than it already is. Just think of the possibilities!

1) No pesky Border to keep drug suppliers from their primary collection of users!

2) Feinstein, Boxer, Pelosi, Waxman would ALL make Fine additions to the Mexican legislature... such as IT is!

3) No more illegal entry for field workers to find work in "The Valley".

4) We get to shovel any number of multi generational welfare recipients off on the Mexican Government and let THEM deal with the "demands for more 'rights'". I'm curious to see what and how those dependents react to being told "No Mas!" by another "broke" Government.

On the down side, however, there would be EVER so many ex-Mexicans illegally living in California that would suddenly find themselves reincorporated into that rat hole of a Country they tried so hard to escape from in the first place. (I DO find that somewhat a poetic justice, it must be said.)

(Note to "litteral readers": The foregoing was a "tongue in cheek" proposal. NOT to be taken seriously. Not to get your panties in a wad over. Just think of it as a good joke, an alternate timeline with cynical references. Failure to do so will cause your "FAY-AIRE" -ness circuits to overload, with vein popping consequences!)
