Are suppressors Legal in TN

I'm going to heading up to Mc minnville tomorrow to visit with a friend for thanksgiving. I'm going to be bring some of my firearms along and was thinking of bring the Walther with the suppressor. I'm going to google search but want to know if any of you can tell me if suppressors are legal to have in TN. Thanks a lot guy/gals

I've never had any reason to find out. I'll do a little digging for you and for my own knowledge.

39-17-1302. Prohibited weapons. —


(a) A person commits an offense who intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs or sells:

(1) An explosive or an explosive weapon;
(2) A device principally designed, made or adapted for delivering or shooting an explosive weapon;
(3) A machine gun;
(4) A short-barrel rifle or shotgun;
(5) A firearm silencer;
(6) Hoax device;
(7) A switchblade knife or knuckles; or
(8) Any other implement for infliction of serious bodily injury or death that has no common lawful purpose.


However, I'm not sure what the law is if you have your Class III license & the surppressor was purchased legally.

SOT Class 3 license for possession of Title 2 weapons.

In Tennessee you can own the following items that are regulated by NFA;

1. Machine Guns
2. Silencers
3. Any other weapon
4. Detructive Devices
5. Short Barreled Shotguns
6. Short Barreled Rifles

Pretty much everything. Here in AL, SBS and SBR's are not permitted period!

Thanks Guys. I don't have my Class 3 license but I do have all my paper work and tax stamp from the ATF for the silencer. So I'm all legal but I know some states still will not let you have it even with the paperwork.
