Are Good enough sights for ccw enough.

I have a taurus pt145pro that I love and when I get enough scratch together I will get my ccw and it will be my carry piece. It has the Heine straight 8 sights that are ok, and I shoot fine with, but they are not great. Most of the better sights I have seen and tried (on friends guns) are a little taller but much better. Most self defense ranges are close to where sights really aren't used so is it worth it in the end? Also, does the slightly higher site cause more of a snag issue? Love to hear your opinions, thanks.

Make sure you are accurate with that gun in both low and no light situations too. If not, then you may want to get night sights.

I cannot comment on "snag" issues with that particular gun, but I can say I've never had a gun snag due to the sights.

At what distance do you think you would be engaging a target in self-defense? I read somewhere that most defensive shootings occur inside of 3 yards. I suspect you won't even have the option of using your sights.

That having been said, practice with what you have. Practice point-shooting also. Don't forget low-light shooting. Pull your gun out in a dark room and look at the sights. That's why you practice point-shooting.

To tell you the truth, if I were to change the sights on any firearm, I would go with low-light sights.

There are plenty of discussions in this forum about lasers and sights and lights. Have a look around.

It's what ever works for you. I have a patrol sergeant who was a K-9 officer and a SRT officer for 13 years. He talks wonders about the straight 8s. I personally cant stand them. Use what works for you.
