AR-15 parts ideas.

I am mainly a Glock, 1911 kind of a guy. We have two AR-s for SHTF issues. What should we have for parts?

I keep an extra firing pin, trigger group, extractor and six gas rings. I know some people recommend to keep an extra bolt carrier group and buffer spring. I can see where having an extra BCG may come in handy but I have never seen a buffer spring wear out but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I'm sure I am missing one or two more items but that's what I keep on hand for SHTF.

Like BigSlick said, those are good spares to keep around. I am in the process (slowly) of gathering spare parts for my AKs, springs and pins mostly... mag rebuild kits too. I have spare stocks, the original wooden variety. Luckily, and I'm NOT trying to start that debate but, AKs don't break all that often so I don't expect to have to replace much over the life of the weapons. I will make a suggestion, this may seem waaay out there for spare parts but.... perhaps you should get some spare gas tubes as well.

I keep enough parts to basically build another rifle. This is a little bit of overkill. Several places sell "oops kits" containing detents/springs, buffer retainer, hammer spring, and firing pin retainer. I'd have at the very least a spare extractor, ejector, their specific springs/retainers, and firing pin in addition to the "oops" stuff.
We have several AR type rifles so I keep complete bolts, carriers, lower parts kits, stocks, and all the tools required to replace/rebuild the guns.
Having a complete spare rifle is great if it's something you can manage. Remember two is one and one is none.

Gas tube. Castle nut in case you destroy the current staked one when you have to remove it and the barrel to do some sight or other work.
