AR-15 Custom Build vs. Off the Shelf

I want an AR-15 and want to know the pros and cons to having a Custom Build made vs. buying something I find online or in a store.

If you decide to sell a custom build later, does it being custom a plus or minus?

Well if you custom build it it will be what YOUR wanting so reselling it CAN be more difficult. If your going to resell it why buy custom?

I think it depends on what you consider custom. I have a Spikes upper that was customized by them per my request. I bought their stripped lower and their lower parts kit, their upgraded trigger and their buffer tube. I added a magpul stock and optics. I ended up with a fully warrantied rifle that was 100% what I wanted and saved several hundred dollars. I do not think I would have any problems if I ever wanted to sell it.

Now had I gone gunshow upper and misc bottom dollar parts I do not think I would be happy or be able to ever sell.

I like the fact that my rifle can't be described by a model number. It took a lot more effort than buying what came in the box, but it was worth it.

I wonder about this too. I want a AR, but I'm not made of money. I also live in a horrible gun state, MA, and worry I won't have access to all the real goodies because of our ridiculous stipulations on what constitutes a "compliant" "non-assault" weapon. I need to move....
