April is child abuse awareness month, if you know of any child being abused call: 1-800-4 A CHILD.
So all the other months we shouldn't be aware of it and not call?
I really don't get this notion of creating a single month for whatever cause someone has.
Just for kicks and giggles, I looked up to see what other causes April seems to be dedicated to:
- Alcohol Awareness
- Arab-American Awareness
- Autism Awareness
- Cancer Control
- Donate Life Month - Organ and Tissue Donation
- Jazz Appreciation
- Keep America Beautiful
- Mathematics Education (now I understand why America does so poorly... we only dedicate one month to it)
- Poetry month (but at least poetry gets the same month as mathematics)
- School Library Media
- Sexual Assault Awareness
- Spring Ahead for Life
- Sports Eye Safety
- STDs Education and Awareness
- Stress Awareness
- Tartan (Scottish-American) Heritage
- Volunteer
- Work Life Enrichment
- World Habitat Awareness
- Youth Sports Safety
Phew, glad I know all the things we should be aware of for the month of April.
Yes, child abuse is a serious issue. Yes, one should call for help when it is happening to someone. What I just really don't get is dedicating months to certain topics. And when that list gets this big, doesn't the topic get diminished?
For all the month's, here's the AF's official "Awareness Months Calendar"
