Applying for Concealed Carry Permit

I live in California and have recently applied for a CCP. As part of the application I have to state why I would like to have a CCP. Twice now the Sargent has called me and told me to write a different reason. The reason that I want to feel safe and want the ability should it become necessary to protect my family or loved ones is not good enough. We go camping in areas where there can be cougars and bears and I might have to protect our kids or pet.
I mentioned times are different today than just 10 years ago. We have treats of natural disasters that can leave us in situations where we have to take care of ourselves and loved ones.

Can anyone else suggest what more I should be giving for a reason. I look forward to your replies.
 
That's too bad. Sounds like your state is a "may issue" rather than a "shall issue". I'm guessing they need a concrete reason to grant you the permit. I'm sure they're looking for something along the lines of you having an immediate threat from others. Just guessing.
 
Holy crap, what reasons have you stated that got you told to come up with another one?? But you do live in the communist republic of California so I’m not surprised. I would think stating that you want to protect yourself from all those gun laws that enable the bad people even more to do what they wanna do would be sufficient. But California pretty much takes the cake in the “stupid” department for thinking all those gun laws help the people. I bet all them gang members with their full-auto rifles, uzi’s, 17, 18-round pistols and whatever else they have that was purchased illegally or stolen are really affected by all that.

What reasons do people give in other states? I want to protect myself and my family first of all. It is my second amendment right to bear an arm, is it not?

Here in Oklahoma, we don’t have to give a reason. But I imagine the other state’s that are as goofy as yours who do, would suffice from probably the same reasons you already gave.

In Iowa I didn't need to give a reason. They just issued it. Easy!

Here’s the rub, you live in a Socialist [emoji90]Hole like me here in Neuyoykistan. You’ve got to be very careful what you say on that application. Offhand I’d say that stating personal protection might just be a deal breaker to any sort of Libtard judge or whatever granting authority. So be careful there, very careful !
Take the time, search around, fine others who successfully applied and copy their wording with just minor changes. Don’t just look at one guys app, look at a few, follow their advice and guidance.
The first thing you have to do is see this more as a job applicant than any sort of right. That’s just life in in these disgusting states where honest people have few rights. Make sure to use the buzz words that others use, keep it short and to the point.
Here’s a tip from a State Cop who used to do these backgrounds in NY. If you need character references be careful who you use. He said many references simply forget to send in the paperwork. So follow up and make sure they get it done.
If you will have to be in some sort of interview expect some kind of “what if “ scenario question. Your response should be all about backing up, avoiding a fight, running like hell ect. ANYTHING TO AVOID USING DEADLY FORCE. Or something like you happen upon Jr. breaking in and starting your car, want to do? You can’t shoot him unless he’s in the act of trying to run you over with it, right? Or Jr. across the parking lot waving a blade threatening you from 100’, will you won’t you? It all revolves around if they are a direct threat of death/ serious injury, PERIOD!! Just keep that sort of thing in mind for if they ask as well as for the real thing.
It’s all a PITA by design so you have to play the game. If you believe it will help sign up for a CC course. It might help things and is always a good idea anyways.

The secret to many of thses gun license issues is that they really don’t want you to have it. No surprise right, especially in one of the “Stan’s “. So in comes the hoops to jump through and costs. They are there to deter you of course. Remember also that this hindrance works for most applicants. They say screw it and give up exactly as intended.
Persistence pays as they say . Go through the ridiculous motions, jump the hoops and unless there’s something like a domestic violence or criminal conviction in your past you’ll [emoji1695]usually prevail. Just never expect it to be “ easy”. Beat them at their game!
When you do[emoji847]prevail do go and take one of those CC classes. You will surely learn a lot about and particularly what NOT to do. Those nots cover about 95% of any situation you will ever find yourself in trust me. Those courses are at the least a good refresher and or training even for retired LE types like me.

How long does it take to get the application back

Ooh boy , that’s all over the place. Here in NY it has always taken 6 months. Why you ask. Because the judges always sat on them for that long more or less before handing it to the state cop who got to review it and do the issuance. So all in all it’s a big who knows according to local practice. I’d suggest you get ahold of that cop that advised you to change your reasons for applying. He could give you the best advice. Just don’t make yourself a PITA in the process. You definitely don’t want to hint at some [emoji79]need if you get my drift.
I see your point on carrying a piece in the woods of Commyfornia. We had a local guy here who owned 3 lumber yards retire in 2013 after busting his hump forever. He took his dream retirement hiking vacation hiking all over California and came back dead. He ran into a couple of those infamous predators that wear pants out in the Bush. No way I’d go way off and away from the heavily traveled places without a piece over there on the Left Coast.
Keep the faith, they’ll get to you. If there was an all out ban that cop you spoke to would have told you ( hopefully[emoji848]). Keep the faith.

Usually if you need to state a reason that means you ain't getting it. Unless you know someone or literally have a work related need etc you are probably SOL.

I took a CC course last Sunday. 8 hours. It was good. Fantastic Instructor. This summer he is holding a few Small Arms Courses. I am planning to take 1 or 2 of them, then I will go back to the sheriffs office to finalize my CCW license.
So far I have 2x sent s word doc with my reason for wanting a CCW license and they have "balked at me". I mentioned this last Sunday and asked the other 18 students their thoughts. We have 2 companies. My smallest sales item is $50,000 and goes into the hundreds of thousands. When I go to the bank with a check, they all said "It's currency" , it's not a check. We will go for it.

Remember, AOCs future constituents don’t care what it is. Worse if they rob you and find it’s non negotiable and then get really mad. Then they might take it out on you! It wouldn’t be the first time! I wouldn’t dream of carrying$10 grand around to deposit without a bunch of people around.
Keep at it. Make them give you a reason why not. Unless you’ve got some kind of criminal record it’s pretty hard for them to definitively say no. Rather they run you through the hoops hoping you eventually give up. Hell you may even have to resort to a lawyer. You see those ads in East Coast hell hole cities forever. Sometimes that’s what it takes unfortunately when you live in a Marxist Socialist hellhole.
