Appendix Carry and the Family Jewels

For those of you that carry appendix ISWB, how do you justify breaking rule number two?

Drat, when I carry in my Crossbreed Supertuck, I'm pointing right down my leg!

In a holster, a proper holster, what's the issue?

Consider that most shoulder rigs are always pointing at the person behind you....

I carry a M&P 9C at 11:00 (lefty) in a kydex holster. Most carry positions have you point the gun at some part of your body at some time. I carry with a round chambered. I am not fearful. I am very careful putting the gun back in the holster. I don't believe in accidents. Just negligence. Keep your finger off the trigger and it won't go bang. Works for me, not for everyone.

OWB with a jacket/shirt at 0400, SOB at times. OC at the same 0400. My boys never see the barrel. Ain't no sense in my book allowing personal injury. The boys are thankful.

Simple. It's in a holster. Guns don't go off by themselves.

Exactly!

In most situations the gun and the holster are removed or inserted as a single unit so the trigger/trigger guard are always covered. If I have to reholster, I LOOK at the gun and holster to make sure it is safe to reholster.
I don't know where anyone got the idea that it is bad to look at the holster while reholstering. I'm not putting my gun away if there is the remotest chance that I need to use it. If everything is clear, I can look at what I am doing and take my own sweet time putting my gun back in the holster.

I carry my P95 at 3:00 daily .In a Mamba CE (Link Removed).

It took a while to get used to sitting differently .. you cant be lazy .. I would never go back .. I love it

Carry at the 11:00 so its not really on the boys too much. Also dont keep one chambered. Especially in a belly band. But no matter what the thing is always pointed at something if you think about it...be it your leg, foot or balls. No need to "justify" it. Just dont be negligent and youve got nothing to fear.

What's "rule #2?" I carry at about 3:30 btw..or about 8:30-8:45 when I carry leftie.

Seriously?

The rules of gun safety follow from this mindset. There are many variations, and one of them is the Four Rules introduced by Colonel Jeff Cooper, which are:

1. All guns are always loaded.
2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

And of course rule #2 isn't literal. Your muzzle regularly is pointed at things you don't wish to destroy. There is no way that you can not.

I think he's referring to the rule that says: "Never point the weapon at anything you don't intend to destroy."

As Prof post mentions, there are variations of the rules for safe gun handling. I thought he was talking about keeping your finger off the trigger, as I feel coopers rule #1 doesn't makes any sense. But back on OP, the rules are primarily for safe gun HANDLING. When it's in a holster or a safe, you aren't handling it.

I used to carry appendix IWB, but quit that as primary carry for two reasons... comfort and rule #2, not necessarily in that order. Primary carry at 3:00 OWB now.

like its been said already pretty much no matter where you carry on your body you will at some point or another have the muzzle aimed at your own body or someone elses. i carry IWB at 11:00, im left handed. as long as the gun is in a good quality holster and you are safe and aware you will be fine.
