Anyone own a Century Arms AK?

Century is not a brand by itself, it's just an importer. They import AKs made in different countries with different qualities.

The Zastava, which is imported by Century Arms, is a good rifle. Just order the normal ak and buy the folding stock separate. Also make sure that they replace the trigger with a Tapco. Your index finger will be much appreciative.

The horror stories have to do with the milling they had to do to expand the size of the magazine port. It used to be that AK's could only be imported if they only accepted 10 round magazines. This of course was during one of the famous assault weapons bans of the 90's. After the ban expired they had a mess of weapons that would only accept a single stack magazine. As you could imagine no one wants an AK that will only accept single stack 10 round mags, so they had to mill out the magazine port on those weapons so they could accept the double stack 30 round mags. This caused the mags to wobble and wiggle, a trait not attractive to AK owners. They solved the wiggle magazine problem by making an adapter that fit the milled out magazine ports and stopped the mag wiggle.

Anyhow, since the AW ban expired they now import weapons that accept the 30 round double stack with no wiggle.

I have been looking at a Century Arms under folder AK and wondering what the quality is like. I have heard some horror stories about Century. What is your guys opinions?

As has been said, CAI is an importer of most things they sell. I own three AKs that are "Century Arms" and I have not had any issues with any of them. I own an M74 (AK-74), GP 1975 (AK-47) and a Polish AKMS underfolder... All have taken abuse over years and not complained about it. All three have functioned 99.99%, with the only malfunctions being forced upon it by me. Accuracy is what should be expected by an imported, parts-kit built AK... My M74 consistently shoots 3" groups @ 100yds, the GP 1975 shoots 4" groups @ 100yds and the AKMS shoots 5" groups. These are NOT target rifles and they're not ARs, these are stone-reliable, COMBAT rifles that were meant to hit a man out to 250-300m.... mission accomplished.

I have heard great things about the Yugo AKs (Zastava), the one's I have heard so-so reports about are WASR 10s and 10/63s. Apparently, the WASRs are (or at least were) the least desirable of the bunch... so if you're looking at one of these, inspect carefully and function check before purchasing. I'd ask if I could rack some various mags in & out while function checking and ask an employee there to field strip the weapon for your inspection.

Overall, despite the horror stories about CAI... I give them an A+ overall rating when it comes to their imported AKs. Remember too, if you do get an AK with some issues, break it down to find the problem part(s) and fix or replace it. Easy stuff, the AK is a tool so don't be afraid to work on it like a tool.

Happy hunting!!!

I have a Century Arms Centurion Model 39 Sporter. (Google it for specs, etc.) Milled receiver and made IN THE USA. Paid a lot for it. Have had it about a year and a half. WHAT AN AK! Mine has been 100% reliable with anything that I want it to digest. It takes every mag. brand I have, including Korean and Romanian drums. I plink and target shoot with it from ranges out to 100 yds. and could not be more happy with it. Has a Tapco 2 trigger, by the way as well as picitanny rails. Came with it. Stock is longer than usual and made that way because most Americans have larger builds and longer arms than our Asian or European counterparts. I am shooting it as is, right from the box. I have not modified it in any way. In my humble opinion, it is worth the money and I could not be more happy with it! Only thing I wish it had was a left side scope mount simply because I love scopes! Good luck with what ever you choose. Be safe and have fun!

I had a Century arms Drako..... Everyone had told me they are junk, but I couldnt pass up the deal. Had 2 stovepipes in first 2 mags which was probably more me limp-wristing it than the guns fault... after that, no failures of ANY kind... Ran close to 2k rounds through it without EVER cleaning it before trading it off for an AR... I wouldnt hesitate owning another Century Arms AK.....
