Anyone making their own Kydex holsters?

I just ordered one of the Old Faithful kits for my S&W M&P Shield 40. I originally had ordered the kit that lets you form your own kydex to your gun. I changed it to one that already had the kydex formed to my gun.

Has anyone made their own kydex holster, and is it OK to use the actual gun rather than a blue gun?

Also does anyone have the old faithful hybrid holster?

Thanks

My wife has a Ruger LCP w/lasermax and we couldn't find a holster for it that she liked. I bought all the supplies separatly and molded the kydex to her gun. She absoluly loves it and says it is really comfortable. ;) So much so that she doesn't even let me try it out. For my S&W M&P I purcased a Galco IWB holster. I like it, but will try to make my own sometime.

You should check out DaleFrickeHolsters.com
Some of the best Kydex I've come across and the only holsters I use any more. A lot of my students end up buying them too.

i have the oldfaithful holster kit. i got the one with the kydex already molded and cut. all i had to do was put it all together. i think its a great holster. easy to put together, comfortable, adjustable, the way the kydex is screwed to the leather it leaves a gap between the kydex and leather which i like and the retention is adjusted easily by tightening the screws a little more or loosening them. i use it to carry on the back side of my hip, 8:00, and also appendix around 10:00. i did trim some leather off the bottom though to make it more comfortable for appendix carry

Unless Old Faithful doesn't have a Kydex to fit your gun why mold your own? I bought the kit with pre-molded kydex, you just put it together. Only $39 and a nice holster.

You can use the real weapon to do it. Just make sure the magazine is inserted (without ammo) to prevent deformation of the mag well. Use blue painters tape on the gun also with a dowel rod on top the slide to make a channel for the sight.

I am making my own Crossbreed style holsters now. Here is my advice based on the grand total of two that I've done so far, take it for what it is worth.

You need to get kydex to around 350-360 degrees for it to mold really well. I have just been taping over my metal guns with blue painter's masking tape.
I have not tried one of my polymer guns yet. Before I do I want to find out what the melting point of the polymer is.

I also got the do-it-yourself kit from WWW.oldfaithfulholsters.com where I got to mold my own kydex. It was great and I would recommend it to anybody who wants a truly custom fit holster.
As far as the molding process goes just follow their instruction vids and you will be fine. I even reheated my kydex and remolded it because I didn't like my first attempt! Turned out great, see pic. I also molded it right on my Sig p250c with no problems at all and it is a polymer frame pistol.
