I travel from florida to nyc all the time with my wife who also has ccw and we hope to one day be able to carry on our trips we have noticed how unsafe the rest stops on i95 can be also i am a native nyc boy and i know how some parts of the big apple can be ..you travel from good part of town then bad part then worst then back to ok ..same in kissimmee and florida.. But no matter were u go what state or city same thing i rather know that my wife and myself can defend ourselves i pray they pass this bill soon ....

The Senate will take up the issue probably early next year. Last time this issue got this far a majority of Senators (58) supported the bill but that was 2 votes shy of stopping the debate which required 60 votes. That was 2 years ago and there was quite a turnover in the election of 2010. What MAY happen is the supporters of National reciprocity (pro-822) will attach the bill to another bill to get it passed. Believe it or not it does stand a good-fair chance of passage in the Senate and remember it will be an election year. However it remains to be seen how Obama will act. While he is anti-gun he DID sign the National Parks Carry Law. He might sign it if it would help his relection chances.

You are correct. Anyway you can bet supporters will try it again attached to another bill Obama would sign and aleady have a bill(s)selected for this reason. While todays House vote was substatially in favor of gun-rights it lacked the 2/3 majority by only 12 votes (based on the number of Congressmen-women voting today, 2/3 of 426 being 284) that it would have taken to overide a Presidential veto. If ALL House members were present and voting it would take 290 votes to overide a veto. But it is close. I believe the chances in the Senate are fair-good, at least for passage. Time will tell.To be fair...that one was attached to a bill that O couldn't veto.

H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, passed by a majority bipartisan vote of 272 to 154. All amendments aimed to weaken or damage the integrity of this bill were defeated.
“NRA has made the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act a priority because it enhances the fundamental right to self-defense guaranteed to all law-abiding people,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action. “People are not immune from crime when they cross state lines. That is why it is vital for them to be able to defend themselves and their loved ones should the need arise.”
H.R. 822, introduced in the U.S. House by Representatives Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) and Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), allows any person with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues concealed firearm permits, or that does not prohibit the carrying of concealed firearms for lawful purposes.
This bill does not affect existing state laws. State laws governing where concealed firearms may be carried would apply within each state’s borders. H.R. 822 does not create a federal licensing system or impose federal standards on state permits; rather, it requires the states to recognize each others' carry permits, just as they recognize drivers' licenses and carry permits held by armored car guards.
As of today, 49 states have laws in place that permit their citizens to carry a concealed firearm in some form. Only Illinois and the District of Columbia deny its residents the right to carry concealed firearms outside their homes or businesses for self-defense.
