Does anybody have any experience with 135 GR hydra-shock 9MM low recoil? These are Federal Premium round and tout a muzzle velocity of 1060 FPS from a full size service pistol...

What about stopping power?

What about penetration?

What about expansion?

inquiring minds want to know!

It's not about the rounds I doubt the bullet matters that much , make sure it's a hollow point ... That's all the criminal won't care what bullet he gets hit with

i have used the .40 s&w low recoil rounds, great round, one reson why they are a best seller everywhere, they work, and really a bullet only does one thing... makes holes. shot placement with any round will do the job. the body has a not so much liking to aquiring new holes in it, so dont worry about all those questions above, want to make sure the perp drops, shoot him in the right areas. nuff said.

I use that as my carry round most often. I have experienced flawless functioning through Glock 19 & 26 after many many rounds. I've shot gel with it and my non-scientific observation is that it expands well and performs well when shooting through heavy jackets, coats and other clothing. Any major manufacturer's high quality hollow point ammo is good. The most important aspect of self-defense shooting is bullet placement which is much more important that bullet size or performance. Practice, practice, practice.

The Hydra-Shock bullet design is decades old, so Old I was still in LE when they came on the street as the newest/bestest JHP available. Unfortunately in real life shootings the hydra-Shock design failed to reliable expand on the street as the bullets hollow point clogs with material and causes the bullet to give similar terminal ballistics to ball ammo. There are MANY better more modern bullet designs available today that give both reliable penetration and expansion.

I also remember when the HydraShok rounds appeared on the market. That was way back when the best performing rounds where the 115grn hyper velocity rounds like CorBon.
My, how times have changed. Now we are using the heavy rounds that so many used to steer us away from.

Bullet design and understanding of terminal ballistics has come a LONG way in the last couple of decades.

I am learning all over again. So much has changed

Actually, I'm old enough to say that it has gone full circle. I learned initially about big heavy bullets. Since those days I've tried them all. I still favor the big heavy for all around use. Longer range, I go a bit lighter, but even then you'll notice that the .50 BMG round is big and heavy for the long range sniper shots as well as for general warfare.
