Anti firearm anything in company hand book.

So I'm working as a temp at a windows and doors company(they supply Home Depot, HINT,HINT). In the company rule book they have a policy that states anyone who talks about firearms,likes,owns etc.. Should be reported and will be added to a company "Watch list" as a potential mass shooter.

I cant help but laugh my butt off at how silly such a policy is.

Companies never seem to have a "Just right" policy when it comes to dealing with work place safety. Most seem to be overly strict, or to lax on the issue. Point in case a job I had years ago. A female employee said she was going to come in and shoot everyone in the place and or send someone in to do it for her. It was reported to the managers and in turn they did nothing about it.

They never seem to meet in the middle and come up with a "Just right" policy.

Several years ago I worked in the records room at Evans Army Hospital we had one civil service employee who told another civil service employee of Viet Namese decent that she was probably ex Viet Cong and would probably come in w/ an AK some day and kill us all. She also threatened to poison my drink once. No action taken.

When I worked at Synthes, company policy stated that any discussion of work place violence would lead to immediate (as in they walk you out the door then and there) dismissal. I had a manager that was continually baiting me w/ statements about how I must sometimes just want to bring in a rifle and start shooting. Any time he made such commentary I just pretended he never said anything and started asking questions about whatever task he wanted me to accomplish that day.

The last machine shop I ever worked at had a “just right “ policy we weren’t allowed to carry at work (several did anyway) but we were allowed to bring in our personal weapons and use the company machinery to work on them , provided we didn’t do it on company time, we didn’t take a machine out of production to do it, we had to leave the weapon in the boss's office until we worked on it and if the weapon was damaged , lost or stolen the company wasn’t responsible.

It wasn’t specifically stated but I suppose illegal modifications would be out of the question as well.

And I worked in a pain management practice where the Dr. wanted me to carry at work but had I ever actually had to use the gun he would have disavowed all knowledge

These days I simply don’t discuss guns at work period

Double crazy. Did you report the crazy lady to the police? That seems like it would be in their arena.

I can't believe your current company has that policy, what a load of bull ****. It seems like that would be a privacy issue but I'm not an expert there.

I'm glad I work from home. Anyone who talks about guns here has a captive audience.

Wow, if my employer had those same policies, I would have black helo's constantly circling my house instead of flying over only once a day.....

What a difference where you lives makes!!! My job requires no firearms on property (INSTANT dismissal if found with one) but we find it odd if an employee does not posess at least one rifle, shotgun, and handgun. Ok, so the 18 year old out of high school is just getting started, but even they usually have a rifle and shotgun. The more I hear about other states, the more I grow to love the high deserts of NorthEastern Nevada!

Not a day goes by that I visit the mower shop that we don't discuss ammo, guns, range time.

At my former job, looking at gun or knife sites would get you called in as they used logging software. But discussing them was never forbidden. Carrying in your vehicle was a no no unless there was something major happening. But it was normally a DADT situation. On the job, no way. If an entry alarm went off with nobody scheduled to be there brought the police and us at the same time. Since then, the new control room has been built with security camera monitoring at the remote sites.

This company is located in a Constitutional carry state (Vermont). New Hampshire is trying to pass a parking lot law right. It would make your car a extension of your house. An employer would no longer be able to fire you for having a firearm in your car on company property. I hope it passes. Right now they are fighting over the wording of the bill.

I can't laugh at all. This is just plain scary. Their statement says that those in power at that company actually believe that the mere possession of a gun will turn someone into a mass shooter.

It's not because of any mental health issues or maybe substance addictions, nope, it's because they own a gun.

At least now I know where not to go if I need a window.

I figure I can always find another job. Probably going to be difficult to find another life.
