~ANOTHER tourist busted for guns in New York~

OK. I concede. There should be mandatory training to receive a concealed weapons permit. To wit: "Don't take your guns to New York. Don't try to take your guns in carry on luggage or on your person on an airplane. Make sure you declare your unloaded firearms in your checked baggage to the airline before you check your luggage."

Im starting to wonder if these guys are martyrs for HR 822! Bringing it to everyone's attention: if this was law, none of this tragedy would have happened!

NYC is nothing but a set trap for the ignorant (which is no excuse). A just system would be for the authorities to determine if the possessor of the gun is legal in his/her state; if so, assess a fine and be done with it. A legal carrier in one state is highly unlikely to become a criminal in another. To make any legal carrier a felon over this is a gross travesty of the justice system. A second offense - that would be another story.

In Massachusetts training is mandatory to apply for a permit. It's one of the main reasons most of us have a job. One of the things we stress the most is the fact that your firearms permit is not anything like a driver's license. It becomes void in most cases once you cross the state line.....

It looks like poor Fred is in for a VERY expensive lesson. He should have known better.

Know before you go:
1. If you don’t have a NY Handgun Permit, do NOT go there with your handgun.
2. If you don’t have a NYC Handgun Permit, do NOT go there with your handgun.
3. If your aircraft is diverted to any NY destination and you must claim your checked baggage which contains a legally declared firearm and ammunition before you can continue to your original, ticketed destination, HAVE A PLAN.

Here’s 29 pages of “N.Y. Consolidated Laws”, read them for yourself. Some interesting excerpts below.

Can anyone tell me what kind of sentence they are handing out in NYC for being convicted of rape, assault, or other violent crime not involving a gun?

I agree, the fact that they treated the guy like an actual criminal is offensive in itself. People should beware of going to NYC but just because it may be legal what they do does not mean it's right.

You have it all wrong. Those perps are victims of society and we need to see how we failed them. Gun owners are violent savages who need to be locked up to protect society. This is the moonbat liberal mindset....

Not picking a fight, I just don't have the information hence, the question: why would HR 822 have made a difference? I thought HR822 just made it so that a CCW permit from another state would be honored in any state that also gives permits. I did not think that if a city had certain other laws you didn't have to follow them (ie having a handgun license in NYC). Again just trying to clarify my knowledge.

Since NY does do permits, your permit would be valid there. But, you would still have to follow all OTHER laws in regards to guns or where you can or can not carry. So for example, you cold not buy a gun in NY using your permit to bypass the NCIS check or carry in any location that local (NY) law does not allow you to do so.

That's four in the last month? I'm beginnig to suspect bloomberg is behind this, as in staging these violations to boost support for his anti-gun agenda.

You're quoting NYS law. Look at NYC criminal codes. It's much worse than state law. I still can't get my head around people who claim ignorance of the law.
