I can't figure out what is wrong with some wack job who would want to do something like this. These wack jobs can figure out where to do something like this where noone can stop them - theaters, schools, malls, churchs, etc. where noone has a firearm who could stop them.
I am watching the CNN coverage of this tradegy and I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THESE NEWS PEOPLE ARE STICKING MICROPHONES AND CAMERAS IN THE FACES OF THE KIDS WHO WEREN'T HURT AND ANYONE ELSE THEY CAN FIND TO GET ALL THE GOREY DETAILS! These newspeople are GHOULS who are doing noting but sensationalizing these events! I put a lot of the blame on the newsmedia for keeping to harp on these event over and over and over, and creating the situation for these wack jobs of thinking, "Gee, I'll do this and get famous too!"
Hell has to have a special place for eternal tourture for the wackos who pull these stunts!
Guy on TV just said that this always happens where the adults have no way of stopping it. If I had school-aged kids today, I'll be damned if they would be in a public school anywhere, even our local area where there is at least one police officer stationed in the high schools now.

What a tragedy! How many times over must it be proven that gun free zones do nothing but encourage violent criminal activity!!

1) Aurora - gun free zone
2) Clackamas mall - gun free zone
3) This one...yep, gun free zone.

Sure, crime can happen anywhere. Why then, do the most tragic incidents seem to be occurring in gun free zones?? In light of events over the last decade, how does one continue to keep the mindset that gun free zones are effective, in light of all the evidence to the contrary?

I have been saying for almost 2 years that teachers need to carry concealed guns. Psychiatrists and doctors are no good when some psycho is shooting a class room full of kids.

You need people who can shoot back!

Let teachers carry guns and attend gun safety classes and shoot at the range.

Or you can just wait till the next mass murder then cry.

Also all states should issue CCW permits which are good in all states.

Criminals do not apply for permits, they just carry a gun and kill.

There needs to be a better job done at identifying these nut cases! Most if not all fit the same profile - they are intraverts, very quite, no friends, no social life, most have family members who know something is not quit right but can't seem to do or get anything done about it through the courts today! And why does the general public need body armor? Looks as if there should be some red flag raised if John Q. Public goes in and buys enough body armor to cover himself/herself from head to foot. When body armor is involved, I'm not sure that anything is going to stop these nut rolls from doing what they are going to do short of a RPG or tank round. Look at the inncident in L.A. a few years back. I am all for gun rights, but be truthful - there are some things that are available to the general public that should not be. But I know - then only the criminals will have them.
I told a police officer this afternoon that until the government will station an combat armed police officer or soldier at my house 24/7 to protect me, my family, and our property that they don't need to talk to me about taking my guns from me. And I'm sure everyone is smart enough to realize that that just ain't a gonna' happen! The public also needs to get rid of the Liberal politicians who don't have the backbone to enforce the death penalty. Death row in Kentucky is overflowing with scum that needs to be gotted rid of instead of costing the taxpayers around $40,000 each per year keep them locked up . Our spineless Governor in Kentucky has stated over and over that he "don't want it on his conscious that he signed a death warrant to carry out a death sentence", but he wants to run for a second four-tear term next year. Sorry Steve, you won't get my vote! Elect me Governor and death row gets cleaned out fast!! And I also couldn't believe that a judge in NC overturned the death penalty in three cases this week either - two were cases where police officer were killed.
As far as I'm concerned, this country is already way beyond going to h*ll in a handbasket. Now someone else can have the soap box for awhile.

I had posted this before and was ridiculed for it but I still feel that, like teachers in Israel the teachers in America should be able to be armed if they request it and as far as schools being gun free zones, it only leaves them open to happenings like this. If a few teachers here had been armed maybe a few children and adults would be alive today.

Think about this, concerning gun free zones. In the movie theater shooting, there were 7 other theaters, 5 closer to where the shooter lived and these 7 theaters weren’t gun free zones, the only theater that was a gun free zone was the one he went to, kind of makes you think why the shooter chose the only one that was a gun free zone doesn’t it?

I actually looked this up yesterday out of curiosity after reading someone else mention it, but was unable to confirm your assessment. The one he went to was approximately 2.4 miles from his residence, which MapQuest claimed was a 4 minute drive from his house. I found only 1 that was closer, but it was a Latino theater that apparently shows films only in Spanish. There was another one that was almost exactly the same distance. The next closest one appeared to be on the order of 7 miles/11 minutes away from his residence. Of course, I just looked up "movie theaters" on yellow pages near his area, so maybe I missed a few....
