Ability, opportunity, jeopardy. Say it each morning when you check your weapon. I have neglected to lately. Should be everyone's mantra.

Ability to do what and what opportunity is this you have in mind as well what jeopardy?
break down the reason you say those words in your mantra so i too may understand why it should be my mantra
thanks just curious

HuH, I was thinking the same thing, eagleeyes.

lolz joseph but seriously i would like to know the foundation of his mantra and for him to put the words in context so what he means by those 3 words is more clear to intentions
hello rdm care to clarify for us please and thanks in advance

I agree. It would be interesting to understand the context in which these words are used for the mantra.

I think it would make more sense as Jeopardy, Opportunity and Ability.

If your in life threatening jeopardy, and you see the opportunity, then stop the threat, but only if you have the ability.

I surely don't wake up every morning with that as my mantra though.

I stay current with my training so defeating a threat will become second nature.

Of course, that's the plan. Most of us have no idea how things will actually roll. It's all in our minds. We just plan and practice and pray we never have to use the training in a real situation.

Applies to the BG, not the concealed carrier. The cc makes a decision based on those variables in a situation. So do the courts. Google it.

So what? Are saying you wake up every morning planning on being the BG? :);)

That makes the phrase mean more, but that must be scarey life you lead. Always looking for the same thing the BG is? How do you concentrate at the task at hand.

Maybe you mean it as not putting yourself in the position to be preyed upon. That would account for the 'opportunity' part and possibility of 'jeopardy' for the BG.

However, you, or I, have no control over 'ablility' of the BG so instead of just saying it applies to the BG, lets hear your description of why that would be your mantra.

In order for it to be legitimate self defense the bad guy has to have

The ability to hurt you: No one is ever going to believe I was afraid Betty White was going to kick my ass when I shot her.

The opportunity to hurt you: If the bad guy is on the other side of a 8 foot barbed wire fence w/ a base ball bat you are not justified in shooting him.

Finally the bad guy must have the Intent to hurt you:

If Betty White is on the other side of that fence, playing soft ball even if she has in the past threatened to kick my ass I can't shoot her because I see her w/ a bat.

Yup, the last one can be described as did you truly feel like ur life was in jeopardy. If you can't answer yes to all three, you are going to have trouble in court. Think zimmermen.

Ummm, no.

If you can't convince a jury that any reasonable person in the same situation would answer yes to all three you are going to have trouble in court
