The BG absorbed 5 .45 rounds, plus probably a 9 mm or a .40....

"...According to Col. Greg Phares, "[Mr. Stevens] orders Mr. Temple to stop and get off the officer.* The verbal commands are ignored and Mr. Stevens fires four shots, all of which struck Mr. Temple."

Perry Stevens fired four shots into Temple's torso.* Officer Harrison had already fired one shot into Temple's abdomen.* With Temple still struggling with the officer, Perry continued to advance toward the scuffle.

"He again orders Mr. Temple to stop what he was doing and get off the officer.* Those commands are ignored and he fires a fifth shot and that hits his head.* The incident is over with, and as you know, Mr. Temple is dead."

Police are calling the shooting death justified.* Perry Stevens has a permit to carry a concealed weapon.* Col. Phares would not give out any more details relating to the shooting.* Both Phares and Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff stopped short of crediting Stevens with saving the officer's life.* LeDuff says the entire incident is unfortunate..."

Good for him, he possibly saved the officer's life and saved the tax payers tens of thousands of dollars.. but one thing strikes me as odd. Why do they feel the need to say he was suspended 17 years ago for three days?

You can ALWAYS count on the media to give the facts that THEY think you need to know. With complete objectivity I might add.

Like it or not, this guy's life has changed forever.
Justified Yes, Necessary, probably, is this something that the guy will think about for the rest of his life? Yes.
The officers on the street are probably grateful as hell he was around. The Chief of Police on the other hand is a political animal and must tote a different line. The Police Chief's do not want to promote CCW or 2A rights or they might not get invited to the best parties at the Police Chief's Convention.

The media is like so many others, show them a gun and they faint.
All these chicken people want to vote guns out of good peoples hands. Stop guns from every place and you stop crime...yeah right! All you do is stop good people from carrying guns while criminals laugh and commit more crime.
We need CCW allowed in more places not less.

Quite a few of them are very supportive, some extremely so. Most that remain quiet do so because of the city/county politicians they work for.

There are many members of this very forum who will say the bystander should have just called 911 and been the best witness.....

SAN ANTONIO - A woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed outside her child's school Tuesday morning.

Police say a bystander who happened to be a concealed handgun license holder pulled his weapon and ordered Barron to drop the knife. Barron surrendered and was taken into custody by the bystander and a school district officer.

The woman was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center.

No actually the opposite, my weapon stays concealed.

In this instance what the superstar should have done is called 911 and talked to them on the phone while the crime was in progress.

I don't have a problem with LEOs, off duty LEOs, and retired LEOs making an arrest and drawing their piece.

But average Joe Blows are making a huge mistake if they try it.

And posting this situation on this forum is also a sign of pure insanity and insecurity and some kind of hero-wanna-be wanting to do something stupid.

Bravo.

End of story. Bye kids.

Shoobee is just an example of the opinion of many members of this forum (not mine). Or....is this case different because it was a police officer being attacked? What say you, Shoobee?

BTW... this shooting ocurred on February 17, 2006!

in 2006:
Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff, speaking to reporters late Thursday, said he credited Stephens with saving his officer's life.

Article in the OP:
Both Phares and Baton Rouge Police Chief Jeff LeDuff stopped short of crediting Stevens with saving the officer's life. LeDuff says the entire incident is unfortunate.

Anybody else think the LeDuff is a two-faced bastard?
