Why pay for the milk when the cow is forced to produce milk for you by the progressive liberal democrat socialists who support tax payer funded programs that allow abuses like this to not only exist, but flourish? He votes democrat I'll bet on it..

I hate to bust you guys' bubbles, but people who misuse poor relief services come from both sides of the political spectrum. The issue here isn't what party he supports, but rather, the fact that, despite being a millionaire, he continued to collect benefits to which he clearly was not entitled, and should be compelled to pay back immediately.

We're not helping ourselves. The law must be changed to include net worth as a determination criteria.

The issue with that is almost everybody who isn't somewhat wealthy and owns their home, and is paying a mortgage, may qualify. My "net worth" is negative because of my mortgage, as is most people's. Cash on hand may be a better measure. It is a problem that doesn't have an ready answer unfortunately.

You are forgetting how these programs work. They are not there to help the poor, they are there to serve a need. Can't have the numbers drop. Must change the rules to create the need. This is why government programs never go away. It's easy to change the rules to keep the need going. That's how career politicians keep getting re-elected. Voters don't want the freebies to go away. Moneys no problem, just print more.:sarcastic:

If this guy is continuing to take welfare, he is commiting fraud. Put him in jail that kind of money should be able to by him a couple packs of smokes.

I agree. But changing the law to consider net worth would stop a lottery winner from collecting entitlements. Mortgage holders face daunting times and in some cases should qualify for assistance. The recent drop in housing values has put many homeowners "under." They purchased with low downpayments based on unrealistic offers from lenders and now owe more than the property is worth. In a knee-jerk reaction, lenders are reluctant to refinance or lend to new purchases. This is America's new class of poor and they need help.

While probably not outright fraud on the guys part, it is clear the he is ineligable to continue SNAP benefits. The social services bozos made an incorect decision that the lotery winnings were not a countable asset. In order to be eligable for SNAP benefits you cannot have more than $2000 worth of countable assets. Countable assets include, money in a checking or saving account, investments (other than IRA's and other pension accounts), and assets that can readily be converted to cash to buy food. Lottery winings would be countable, IMHO, because it is ready cash that can be used to buy food.
If social programs were about helping those in need you would be correct, but these programs are about creating government dependents.
