Another Day's Adventures

Had another little adventure yesterday so I figured I would post about it for any of you who are bored.

Went to Sportsmans Warehouse, and open carried my Glock. As I waited to see a gun salesman, I overheard an older couple standing directly behind me talking about me.

As I looked over my shoulder for a second, I saw the older woman point at my Glock, and turn to her husband. The husband then proceeds to start a rant about how I must not have a concealed carry permit because open carry is for people who cant get a permit to conceal it like the way a gun should be. Unfortunately the sales representative got around to me just as I was thinking about how I could respond politely to such ignorance. The guy definitely thought he was superior to me because he does not open carry like "all those who cant get permits to conceal". So it only goes to prove the point that is made on these forums all so often... many times the only people who take issue with open carry are other gun owners sadly enough.

Anyway, the sales rep gets to me and starts our conversation by asking if I had my gun checked at the front door. So I politely educated him on his store policy that does not require holstered guns to be checked. New or confused employee aside, Sportsmans Warehouse is a gun friendly store.

And to those of you who have one already, I picked up a Ruger 10/22 which is a great little rifle.

congrats on your new ruger
it sounds like a war zone here with all the fireworks going off
i wouldn't want any one confronting me about my firearm like that i'd rather keep mine concealed
happy 4th

I have a copy of Christopher Columbus log from his 1st voyage. One of the chapter headers says, "The biggest obstacle to the discovery of the New World was not the lack of knowledge, but the illusion of knowledge."
That couple was plagued by the illusion that what they thought was true wasn't true. And that they were rude, and they didn't ask someone who knew the truth, before shooting off their mouths.

I think the entire country egotistically thinks they know it all.......... and it annoys the hell out of us who really do know it all!
:laugh::lol::dance3:

I will never understand the conflict between open carry and conceal carry. For the life of me, I just cannot wrap my head around it.

I agree, to support one and not the other is idiocy to my mind.

there shouldn't even be a 'conflict' as sometimes it's good to conceal and other times not
simple as that
imo

Just goes to show there's a lot of nosy ignorant people in the world!! You have to be kind to them too!!

Unneeded attention drawn. Conceal it.

While I choose to carry my weapon concealed for personal reasons.... please do not condemn the one that wishes to openly carry. The second amendment states "...keep and bear..." , but does not say how we should bear our arms. Traditionally, one kept them out in the open while it was the BG that hid them.

For some odd reason in our enlightened state of mind, today people think this is a horrific thing to do. My question to that is, why?

Gun owners need to support gun owners regardless of whether the carry open or concealed.

Doing it to get attention is the wrong reason. Baiting bad looks and bragging about the experience on a forum is stupid.

Actually I WANT to get the bad guy's attention on the fact that I have a gun right there openly carried where he can see I'm not going to be easy prey. I actually hope the sight of my gun will convince him to leave me alone and maybe go somewhere else to attack someone who looks like they don't have a gun... you know... a concealed carrier. And no, I don't feel bad if the bad guy attacks someone else because I am not the protector of the world... that someone else can get their own damn gun and, if legal, can also carry it openly sending the same message to the bad guy that I do.

But there is another perspective too..........

Who gets to decide if the motive was "baiting" or merely for "attention"? You? Me? The cops? The media?

Oh.. and could you point out where in the 2nd Amendment it says bearing arms to get attention is the wrong reason to bear arms?

Please consider some folks openly carry as a statement and not only is that protected under the 2nd Amendment but, because using an activity as a statement is a form of free speech, it is also protected under the 1st Amendment.

But just because someone doesn't like how, where, why, what arm, or who, was bearing arms doesn't mean doing it for attention is a bad thing. It only means some folks don't like it...

Oh... and here is a story where folks were bearing arms with the express purpose of "getting attention". And the interesting thing is none of the protesters were arrested for engaging in the very same long gun carry as the young man who was arrested....

This is a term I use at work, I call them the " know betters" they are refined to admin area of our building and have there phd (post hole degree) (bs (bull%$$&&%^) de gree... but have never and I mean never done the work that is involved. Same goes for ccw or occ they have have not read into the FACTS about anything ,they just react to what our great media tells them.

Although I personally prefer concealed carry, nowhere in the 2nd Ammendment is it required. If you are good by the laws of your state then ignore the windbags.

'In April, Birmingham Police Chief Don Studt acknowledged the constitutionality of Combs' decision to carry his gun, but said "this guy was creating a disturbance and he wouldn't cooperate.""
I think that he was charged because he challenged the paternal authority of the police. That was the reason he was charged and that is the reason why the charges have not been dismissed.

AND, if I consider for a moment that the BG is looking to steal something of value, Well --- that gun that you have openly displayed, not only has value, it tells him the approximate value.
A bird in the hand (displayed) vs. two in the bush (concealed).

Although I carry concealed, I do not condemn your choice to carry openly, just refuse to convert, for my own reasons.

But just because someone doesn't like how, where, why, what arm, or who, was bearing arms doesn't mean doing it for attention is a bad thing. It only means some folks don't like it...
