Another ammo shortage thread

Chuck & Ted 2012
Since the other threads have fallen off, and the info was a little outdated, I thought I would throw another one out here.

I was just in Wally World today and there was a bit of ammo on the shelf. They had 8 100 count boxes of WWB .45 acp ball. They have a limit of 3 boxes per customer for each caliber. Luckily my wife was with me, so we both got 3 boxes. I don't have any interest in other calibers at this time, but I did notice some 9mm and some .40. I didn't see any .380, but I wasn't really looking either. Also, they finally raised the prices for the first time since I have been buying it. Even with the shortages, before I was still able to get 100 rounds for $29 something. This time it was $32 something.

The closest WM to me is 80 miles away, so I don't get a chance to check very regularly, so I really can't say whether or not it seems to be easing. I might have just got lucky again.

I have been doing my ammo shopping lately at a local gun shop. The owner is telling me that all is easing up a bit. He believes he is getting ammo from distributors quicker that the big boys, i.e. WalMart, BassPro, etc. He has everything, no limits, and great prices. I was down at my local range last weekend, and they had some .40 on the counter, no limit, asked if I wanted them to carry a case to the car for me. $15.50 a box for target stuff. Whenever I pop into any of the WM's around the state, they never have anything. Found out most of them don't have a limit so a couple of guys stand around, wait for the delivery and buy it all. I was told that most of the time 90% of the ammo doesn't even make it to the counter at one particular WM nearby.

I guess i have been really lucky. I went to the range with a buddy of mine on Sat. We stopped off at WW on the way, shot all day and I came home with more ammo than I originally left the house with.

Locally (Albuquerque) the ammo scene is up and down. Most big boy retailers are out of stock unless you're there at 7am. Most gunshops are stocked and have a 2-4 box maximum per customer per day. I usually just buy what i'm going to shoot during the weekend. There are alot of people that stockpile the stuff and never go shooting. Also, some people are advertising in the paper some crazy prices like 500 rounds for $300...its insane. I think it will level out by mid 2010

I'm kind of in horde mode right now, I'll admit it. Once I have 5000 rounds, I'll consider everything else expendable. Since I've only seen ammo on the shelves 3 times since the election, I am still going to consider it a hit or miss proposition right now.

I'm not in horde mode. I have maybe 2,000 rounds of .22lr for practice, 200 rounds of .44 mag, and 300 rounds of .308 and I feel well-stocked. I go out and practice and shoot. I've even sold off some of the .22lr to friends who need to practice.

I've seen stores charging $40 for a bulk-pack of .22lr and it's not right. I'd rather sell to my friends for $15 for the bulk pack than watch them get out of practice.

I haven't seen 9mm or .45 in quite a long time over here at wal mart. or the .22 bulk boxes for that matter. but I was in wal mart a couple days ago and they had 27 boxes of .40 fmj. I've seen them have around that many in and after a couple days they would be out again, but they seem to be restocking the .40's pretty quickly. now hopefully the other calibers will be in the same shape soon.

Here in Florida WM has a 6 box limit, but it's kind of hard to buy 6 boxes when the shelves are empty. I was talking to the sporting goods guy and he said the WM in Tennessee had so much ammo that they are sending it back. He said that he bought 5 cases because even he can't get it in Florida.

There is a new Wal-Mart that opened here, the 4th largest in the country. The day they opened, they had a HUGE ammo case completely full. It was empty this morning. I managed to get my uncle two 100rd boxes of Federal .223 before it all sold out. All the .380 is wiped, of course.

Yeah. What I found is that I can say 'screw Walmart' and every other sports store selling 45 ACP at .54 a round. Screw ;em all!! I can pay a ridiculous $35 a thousnad for primers at local gun shows, buy lead at $1.24 a pound, and get empties at about .06 a case. Hmmmm. I've reloaded about 2,500 rounds of 45 ACP for 9 cents a round, and can do 300 rounds during the evenings while I wait for Jay Leno to get over with.

It'll be a cold day in Swaziland before I ever buy a box of ammo from Walmart again, and I can assure you there's no gun shop in this country I feel any need to visit for any reaon. Screw 'em all. Let's do the math....09 a round or .54 a round. Duh. Even if I pay the abusive $45 a 1000 for primers, I'm still smlin'. Butl...there are a few folks letting us backorder at $25 a thou for primers....they've got my orders for 10,000 and all I have to do is have patience.

I think that ALL my reloading gear, including press, dies, sizing/lubing press, scale, and all my casting gear...paid for itself (broke even) at some ridiculous number like 1,500 rounds. Ha!

Went to Wally World today.

.357Sig = $23.97(Win-50rds)
.45acp = $32.97(Win-100rds)
9mm = $11.47(Rem - 50rds)

Hey Bongo Boy, I always thought the pricing at Walmart was generally the same across the country, but at $.54 a round, I guess not.

I hit WW today on the range just to see. Got 6 boxes of .40 for 13.97 ea. They were still lean on stock but they had a little of pretty much everything except for .380

It has been low stock everywhere I've been for the most part so I was pleasantly surprised.

Go Wally World!:yu:

not sure which WW you go to. but the one's around here, Burton, Lapeer, Grand Blanc don't seem to get in 9mm or .45's that much.. or at least don't keep them on the shelves. only .40 is what I am seeing semi regularly.

I hit the one in Woodhaven on my way home. I'm in Flint. The store on Woodhaven had about 8 boxes of everything except for .380. I might check out the one up here later just out of curiosity. Maybe we will have to toss coins for some .45 in Burton!

ah ok. I grew up in flint. now just east of flint. if you need .380 I just got an email from williams on lapeer road and they just got a lot of them in at just over 30 bucks a box. not sure how long they will last though.
