Ankle Holsters

Does anybody have any feedback on ankle holsters? I have to wear scrubs to work, not allowed to carry at work but for when I'm running errands and what not looking to get one since iwb is not an option in scrubs. I am not really wanting to purse carry, want to know its on me if I need it. Any thoughts would help. Thanks!

Ankle hoslters can be good if you can get down to draw. It also depends on the size of your leg and how big the firearm is. I have a galco cloth like ankle holster and in all honesty I prefer to carry another way as I print too much, my ankle is too big, and the firearm is too big (G26).

If you get one try to know how big or small they can get. Have a small firearm for bigger legs. Get the calf support so the holster doesnt fall down. I have glanced at them again and if I got another one it would have kydex and not cloth hoslter just because of my size. Also make sure you pants are baggy around the lower legs. Make sure you dont print when you go from sitting to standing and visa versa.

A belly band, a bra holster, or maybe a crotch holster all might be options. For all of them make sure the trigger is covered in the holster and that you pratice practice pratice (especially bra and crotch carry) to make sure you dont touch the trigger during the draw. Another option might be a fanny pack.

My wife uses a unckle mikes with calf support with her lcp almost every day. She says it ok but can get heavy for her little legs after a whole day on her feet. The strange thing is we bought two of the same holster one for each of us and they are differnt. One fits me well and one fits her better so go somewere you can open it and try it. We ordered online but they work good.

I never found an ankle carry that does not work without a boot. All the above mentioned also applies. I'd not ankle carry accept as a backup with boots. That would be backup to a belly carry or back carry for short periods as you describe. I do exactly that with T-shirts.

I'm a t-shirt guy (when I wear scrubs or can't carry IWB), but not sure how it would work for a woman. Try a "Packin' Tee" (I buy them from Bikers Den). lf you like it, get the klydex Velcro backed holster from Blade-Tech.

I have an ankle holster for my G27 but I do not like it. However, it is my deep concealment and I will use it when I need to.

Its unstable, hurts the ankle and leg a little, and is hard to draw from. This is why it is my last choice for a carry method.

ok, so in short.

they are unstable, painful, uncomfortable, sometimes unreliable (depending on the vendor) and feel very un-natural....

so, why bother with it...that is the feed back, but if it is the only carry method you have avaiable for you...your stuck with it my friend.

Ankle holsters are good as long as the firearm you use is small enough. If it's too heavy, it will be uncomfortable and wobble around. I suggest getting one that has the thigh band so the ankle part stays in place without slipping down.

Ace Case

Okay, this may not be popular because it's an inexpensive brand that makes generic sizes, but I use an Ace Case ankle rig sometimes when I care my S&W 642. There was another poster that said "with boots." I agree, unless you wear pants that are long enough not to expose your piece when you sit down.

Even though generic, this has been the best ankle rig I've used - better than some that are custom fit. American made - just down the road from me in St Clair, MO.

A Galco is what I have for my 38 snubbie and it is not painful. You may also want to consider the optional calf strap to keep it from slipping down. I've used ankle holster daily for over 30 years for my back-up gun, and occasionally my only gun.

I use the Galco Ankle Glove with a Kahr CW9. It is very comfortable and I do not even realize that I am wearing it.

I work in a hospital and wear scrubs daily. If you are like most of us girls we wear a shirt under our scrub tops. I found that the bra holster works great and because of the layered tops is undetectable. Its better than not having anything. With scrub pants they tend to pull up on ankle holsters and then someone will see your carrying. Here is the web address for it;

I appreciate all the feedback. I am actually carrying a cw9 so I will definitely take a look at the Galco. Wish I could just wear jeans and a supertuck all the time then I wouldn't have this issue!

I work with leather and will be designing one for my Charter Arms Undercover. I believe that gun positioning may be everything here.
