And Then There Was Light....

Couldn't really figure out where to put this, but here goes anyway...

I collect two things; knives and flashlights. Makes it fairly easy for my wife to get me something for my birthday because I always drop hints about what I'm in the market for a few weeks beforehand. Last Saturday was my B'day, and lo and behold, I got a great little flashlight that I'd been wanting since the limited edition was released last year.

So normally, I'm into hand-helds that can double as weapons lights, or even high-intensity search lights, but something about this little highly-polished number just spoke to me. Kind of like a William Henry knife is a "gentleman's" knife, I guess this is like a gentleman's EDC flashlight.

So here are the specs:

Olight S10 Ti (Tianium)

1. Body material of S10-Ti Limited Run(Polish or Bead Blasted): aviation titanium;
2. Utilizing the latest Cree XM-L(Neutral White) LED, the highest output reaches 300 lumens;
3. Four outputs: three in regular operation; the moonlight mode can be accessed directly when the flashlight is off; double click the on/off button to activate strobe mode;
4. Equipped with auto memory function and a side switch, the total length is only 70.5mm;
5. Strong removable magnet in the tail, the flashlight can be attached vertically on any ferrous surface;
6. Two-direction invertible pocket clip, easy and reliable for use;
7. Stainless steel bezel;Flat tail cap allows tail standing;
8. High efficiency constant current drive circuit; perfectly compatible with CR123A and RCR123 batteries;
9. Battery reverse polarity protection

And some pics that I snapped without much prep. If y'all are into flashlights, post up pics of your faves. Here's mine (for today anyway):

Up to 300 lumens in this small of a package is quite the feat for Olight.

It also has a "Moonlight" mode which is 0.5 lumen, so low that it doesn't even wash out with the camera lens looking right into it. So the range of this little light goes 0.5, 5, 165, 300, plus a 300 lumen strobe @ ~10 Hz.

And with its big brother the Olight S20, which I've had for a year and a half or so and have used more than any other light I have during that time:

I don't know if there are any flash-a-holics here or not. Just thought I'd try to get a picture thread going for something different. Post 'em if ya got 'em, enjoy the Ti eye-candy in any case. Have a good'un.

Oooh, fun.

That reminds me... I just lost my flashlight. I don't want to buy a super expensive one, because as soon as I get a new one I'll find my lost one.

Sometime before I met GW in '85, I bought this little lock-back Schrade Uncle Henry knife. It was before I was a serious collector, but I have always tried to buy decent-quality knives, and that's what this one was, just decent, nothing special. But I used it all the time. I could dress wires with it while wiring a bike, it was good for trimming callouses (from playing the guitar), held an edge pretty good, just a really good little knife. Then one day it was gone. GW and I had already been married and were living in the house we lived in before leaving LA to move here, but I'm guessing it was at least a year, maybe even two years, before we left that I lost it. After looking everywhere for it, I finally gave up and bought a replacement that was also a subsidiary of Schrade (Old Timer), the same general size, also a lock-back, but the blade-shape was different, and I just never "bonded" with it the way I did with the first one. Anyway, this was the replacement that I still have some 23 or 24 years later:

So I carried that around never fully satisfied with it up until the night before we left LA. We're loadin' up the moving truck and me and a friend go to lift my easy-chair when the recliner reclines and we get all outta shape and the chair hits the floor kinda hard. Out from under somewhere in the bowels of that ol' easy-chair pops my favorite ol' Schrade Uncle Henry. Guess it fell out of a pocket while I was dozin' on the chair or somethin'. Anyway, it's had a daily place in my pocket (again) ever since.

So I know just what you mean about not full-on replacing something you like. Both those knives were around the same price, but the Uncle Henry just "fit" me better and I liked it more. I hardly ever use it anymore, but I never fail to grab it off the mantle and slip in my pocket when I leave the house. 30+ year-old habits die hard. :biggrin:

I know a lot of "flash-o-holics", and I never understood it. I guess it's like any other collectible. It makes sense to the one collecting, but to no one else. And this is the true joy of collecting, it makes sense to the collector and the collector is happy. :)

With that said, my favorite go-to flashlight isn't a streamlight, or an o-light, or any other fancy name brand. I needed a big, bright, patrol light. I found one in a hardware store. It looks like a mag-lite type, it takes 3-C batteries and is 450 lumens. It's strong, its durable, and if I have to use it as a weapon and it gets busted up, I will not care, because I only spent $24.99 for it.

Blues,

I love my Schrade Ole Timer. I had a Buck (about the same size) and the tip broke off of it twice. Not wanting to send it back in for warranty again, I bought the Schrade with the 2" blade. Wow! You will never find me without it in my pocket either. It's a good little knife. It's strong, it keeps an edge well, and it sharpens well when it needs it.
