Good on her for being alert...!!! I would have done the same if I were in her shoes. Families -- first and foremost everyone legally allowed to carry should protect.

I feel for the mother. I will say that this is a good example of a situation where I think the mother and daughter should not have said anything to the police without a lawyer representing them. In these situations, the police and prosecutor are never your friends. I hope against hope that she comes out of this without charges of manslaughter or whatever other nonsense the prosecutor may dream up.

I hope we can somehow get updates on this situation. I really fear for the welfare of the mother.

Not say anything to the police? Are you kidding?! That is absolutely the worst thing I've ever heard.

Can you imagine what that basement would smell like if the police weren't called to pick up the remains of the BG?

Whew!!!

The nanny state police and prosecutor probably would like to send her to the chair for murdering that "poor miscreant youth" And just as he was turning his life around, no doubt.

Sounds like she shot three times. Good shooting. (If that was her.) Still, it only sounds like 4 rounds fired.

I agee that the legal ordeal is likely far from over for this woman. It's sad really. She absolutely did the right thing.

Ordinarily I'm not into folks going out of their way to get involved in a situation, but there are times (like this one) that call for it. Since neither the robbery victim/son or his girlfriend were able to protect themselves against this CRIMINAL, the fact that his mother was able to come to his aid and stop the attack makes her a hero.

We've all heard (or ever said) it before: When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Now, I sincerely hope that if they can legally do so, the son and his girlfriend will arm and train themselves.

You forgot he was being entrepreneurial!

In the litigious USA, Legal costs are high in any self defense case. Luke Sanchez, New Mexico: Luke now owes in excess of $20,000...and his case was dropped before going to trial. DA (politico) was swamped with petitions to drop the case.
