*And so it begins*

If this has been stated before I am sorry. The 2nd amendment never had anything to do with hunting or self defense against criminals. The founders had just fought a revolution that started at Lexington and Concord when the British attempted to confiscate the arms of the colonial militias. The framers of the Constitution wanted to be sure that all citizens had he ability to fight their own government when it became a tyranny (they had just done this to the British ). Weapons equal to those of military are exactly the kinds of weapons the citizens are supposed to own. They believed that if the entire populace was armed no army could eliminate the rights of the people. The 2nd amendment is the most important because it is the guarantor of all other rights.

U first, ill be right behind you. ;)

Mr. President we already have an excellent gun law in this country, one which no other country in the world has, it is called the 2nd Amendment, maybe you should read the constitution, remember you swore to protect and defend it when you were sworn into office. Instead you have attempted to ignore it at every opportunity, to go around the very thing you are sworn to protect. Since you have failed to protect it, I ask no more or less from you than anyone in a court of law that ignored their oath. Unabridged 2nd Amendment it protects the rest, including my right to speak out under the first. God Bless America, when I say this I mean it, unlike you who just mouths the words in rhyme or cadence. Again God Bless America.

Someone on the forum asked "where's it going to end?" I'm afraid it all going to end the day the government attempts to come for America's guns!

BTW... if civilians want to be able to defend themselves against a rogue government, they're going to need weapons equal to, or greater than, that of their opposition. This would include tanks if one was so inclined and had the means!

Provided they have the military on their side. I do think the military will be split if the SHTF in a real bad way and we would have to side up to those rebelling to get control of automatic weapons, tanks, LRADS, microwave guns, Satellites, drones etc. It would probably be the longest revolution in history or maybe the shortest depending on how bad people in this country want to hang on what's left of freedom.

Where does it stop. Should I be able to buy a tank?

Yeah! (If you can afford it.)

Why does the distaff side ALWAYS throw up a "straw man" arguement?

I know.... because they have no real arguement. I could discuss much more eloquently if the "straw man" did not keep coming up.

Ho Hum! (Yawn)

GG

Exactly Right On!
I had this exact same conversation with my wife last night.
I could see the light bulb click on in her eyes when she was listening to me on this exact topic.

On discussing the 2nd amendment it wasn't a course of action that I was suggesting . I was only putting it into historical context. Action would would depend on how much Americans still loved their country and liberty. I am not sure the majority even cares any more. Complacency and greed has always been the downfall of a republic. The founders discussed this and many fears and freedoms in the Federalist Papers.

Do we really need assault rifles? Could be worse, he could not let us keep any guns.
The basic flaw in what you said is the belief that the right to bear arms is subject to what someone in authority "lets" it be.

The rights to life, liberty, and the pursute of happiness come from God, not man nor government. Jefferson and Madison believed the right to protect these liberties was also God given and could not be limited in any way. The only way progressives can limit life and liberty is by removing the means of protecting those rights. The intent of progressives is so clear that to not see it is beyond idiocy. I can not understand what the hell is wrong with the people of this country.

Sadly I do understand what the hell is wrong with many of the people of this country.... the only thing they want to know is............

I don't care what it costs YOU.... what's in it for ME!.

I believe BoBo has a history of saying one thing and meaning another. I don't believe a thing he says. For those that don't remember: while he was running for office the first time, he greatly supported the Space Program, first thing he did was shut it down. Need I say more?

Sorry, `OtisM`. They are calling all semi-automatic rifles "assault rifles" this time. And under the up-coming ATT, it will be the registration of all firearms. Followed by the banning of first one gun, then another, until (over the next few years) they are all gone.

The ATT is my line in the sand.

I will not abide by the ATT.

Precisely. You hit the nail on the head. If there is no law against it, then you are good to go. If there are laws against buying assault rifles then follow the law. That is a law abiding citizen. We elect leaders to establish law and govern.

And if the law was passed that (insert your religion) was banned, would you report to the authorities for punishment?

"May your chains rest lightly upon you."

Just another headline brought to you from the people over at FOX Hole news. By the way, Mr. O'reilly was that 6,000 or 60,000 that you were so concerned that no federal agency knew about it? I guess the facts don't matter anymore.
