This is one item he did not touch during his first term, but if given the chance of a second term with no reelection consequences that will change dramatically along with the rest of his radical hopeless and change agenda.
 
This is just more good intentions, feel good, liberal politics. Take advantage of an emotional issue. Have we ended drunk driving with restrictive drunk driving laws? Have we ended cell phone use with restrictive cell phone use laws? Think of how much lower crime rates would be if criminals were treated like criminals and not victims.

In his broadest remarks on gun control yet in the aftermath of the mass shooting at a Colorado movie theater, President Barack Obama called late Wednesday for tougher background checks designed to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill.

"A lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals -- that they belong on the battlefield of war, not on the streets of our cities," the president, who has called for reimposing the Assault Weapons Ban, said in a speech to the National Urban League.

"I believe the majority of gun owners would agree that we should do everything possible to prevent criminals and fugitives from purchasing weapons; that we should check someone's criminal record before they can check out a gun seller; that a mentally unbalanced individual should not be able to get his hands on a gun so easily," he said. "These steps shouldn't be controversial. They should be common sense."

But Obama also offered a nod to the difficult politics of gun control, portraying himself as a believer in the individual right to bear arms, and acknowledging that calls to action after an incident like the one in Aurora often fade.

"When there is an extraordinarily heartbreaking tragedy like the one we saw, there's always an outcry immediately after for action. And there's talk of new reforms, and there's talk of new legislation," Obama said in his speech. "And too often, those efforts are defeated by politics and by lobbying and eventually by the pull of our collective attention elsewhere."

"And I, like most Americans, believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms. And we recognize the traditions of gun ownership that passed on from generation to generation -— that hunting and shooting are part of a cherished national heritage," he said.

he's promoting tougher background checks and nothing more. also promotes the 2nd ammendment. crazy talk about "what if's" is what's driving up the prices and demand on things for no reason.

There has been and always will be a few who will do the wrong things. If this last nut could not have gotten his hands of firearms and Ammo. He would have built a bomb, or thrown acid on people. The best we can do is always be on guard, when that 100 round Mag. jammed his rifle people should have charged him taking him down. That would have been the only real chance to save lives.

And exactly which guns do you think we should be allowed to keep? Personally, I favor six guns and single shot rifles, that doesn't mean that nobody likes or needs anything else. Reading your posts frequently has me scratching my head and wondering where you would draw the line. And as far as tanks go, I don't know about you, but I can just about afford fuel for my Jeep.

Precisely. You hit the nail on the head. If there is no law against it, then you are good to go. If there are laws against buying assault rifles then follow the law. That is a law abiding citizen. We elect leaders to establish law and govern.

One loss to liberty is a step on the road to ruin, not one inch, you want my gun you will have to take it by force of arms will I lose, yes, I will take a few with me when I go. Since only the criminal will guns and we cannot defend ourselves may as well become a criminal, wonder if the evil guns mean the Secret Service will have their full auto weapons removed, if they are evil they don't need them either.
